ALS TDI

ALS TDI We have one mission. End ALS. We are the world's most comprehensive drug discovery lab focused solely on ALS.
(271)

As a nonprofit biotech, our cutting-edge research is fueled by the ALS community. Visit www.als.net to explore our impact and help fund cures. Since 1999, our team has grown from a family working in a basement to a team of over 30 full-time researchers. We are dedicated to discovering and inventing effective treatments to end ALS. We will not stop until there is a treatment for every person living with ALS.

Approximately 85% of ALS cases are sporadic, yet most laboratory models represent genetic forms of the disease. To better understand sporadic ALS and develop potential treatments, researchers need models that more accurately reflect its biology and diversity.

PRISM ALS was created to help meet this need. ALS TDI, LifeArc, and Axol Bioscience Ltd. are developing a shared panel of patient-derived motor neuron models representing sporadic ALS, benchmarking them against familial ALS lines, and making them available to researchers and companies across the field.

More than 150 walkers filled the streets of Newton on Saturday, walking right past the place where ALS TDI was founded, and together we raised over $103,000 for ALS research.

That support goes straight into our lab, into the work of finding treatments for a disease that has gone too long without them.

To everyone who walked, donated, cheered from the sidelines, or attended a satellite ALS Walk for Research in your own community: thank you. You made this one count. 💜

⏰ Time's almost up: about 6 hours left to submit your 2026 ALS TDI Leadership Award nominations.

Every year, these awards recognize the people who show up for the ALS community again and again: the fundraisers, the advocates, the caregivers, the volunteers who make our research possible. If someone in your life fits that description, tell us about them.

Nominations close tonight. Don't let the person you're thinking of go unrecognized:

Meet the runners taking on the TCS Sydney Marathon this Sunday afternoon! Shanna Coulter, Jonathon Brindley, Robin Walther, and Phillipe Mikael Micheau are lacing up to run 26.2 miles as part of Team ALS TDI, and we could not be more proud.

Together, this incredible team has already raised over $14K for ALS research, bringing us one step closer to treatments and a cure. Every mile they run this weekend is in honor of the ALS community and everyone impacted by this disease.

It's not too late to donate to their pages if you want to help cheer them on this weekend! Good luck, Team ALS TDI, we'll be cheering for you from home: https://sm26.grassrootz.com/the-als-therapy-development-institute

Thank you to everyone who went above and beyond for ALS research this past July. Stuart completed an incredible 5,000-mile solo ride from New York to San Francisco in honor of his father, Scott, raising over $10K. And even though the Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS got rained out this year, the Walnut community still showed up, raising over $40K for the cause.

Whether it's thousands of miles on the road or a hometown 5K, every mile and every dollar brings us closer to treatments and a cure. Thank you, Stuart and Walnut, for going the distance with us!

Dr. Boyce is kicking off our new series, Behind the Data, where we're taking you inside the science of using real world evidence to better understand ALS. In this first episode, she breaks down how ARC Study data helps our team uncover ALS discoveries, from blood samples to clinical history to the places you've lived.

Follow along to meet more of our data science team throughout the series. To learn more about our ARC Study, visit: als.net/arc/. Stay tuned for more, Behind the Data starts now!

⏰ Last call! Our Town Hall on GIS Mapping and ALS Risk is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 25th from 2:00-3:00pm ET.

Could where you've lived affect your risk of developing ALS? Experts from ALS TDI and Esri will break down how GIS mapping technology is helping researchers connect residential histories and environmental exposures to ALS risk, including work on the CDC National ALS Registry and the ARC natural history study.

Haven't signed up yet? There's still time to register before tomorrow's session: https://www.als.net/als-town-hall/
