β™»οΈπŸš Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day was a huge success! For the first time EVER, v**e devices were accepted for safe disposal thanks to the collaborative efforts of DANC, Jefferson/Lewis/Hamilton/Herkimer/Oneida BOCES, Jefferson County Public Health Service, Watertown City Fire Department, the Alliance for Better Communities, & the Youth Alliance! πŸ‘

We organized a "milk-run" style pick up with North Ward Environmental out of New Jersey to pick up v**es from school districts all across Jefferson County. School districts collected & turned in a whopping 88 POUNDS of v**es! These pictures are just a few samples of what was picked up.

Why is this important? Disposable v**es are more than just litter β€” they contain lithium-ion batteries, plastics, ni****ne residue, and harmful chemicals that can leak into our soil and waterways when thrown in the trash or on the ground. They also contribute to microplastic pollution and can even cause fires when improperly disposed of. πŸ”₯🌎

By properly recycling v**e devices, we can help protect our environment, wildlife, sanitation workers, & our community. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!πŸ’šβ™»οΈ
