Sad news…

Today we had to say goodbye to our sweet house bird, Jewel.

Jewel wasn’t just a chicken—she was part of our family. She had the biggest personality and brought so much joy to our home every single day. She loved being a house bird and made everyone who met her smile.

She wasn’t a young girl anymore, and this past week we could tell something just wasn’t quite right. She had been a little off, and I had hoped it was simply the change in temperatures and that she’d bounce back like she always had. Unfortunately, today she let us know it was time.

Losing Jewel is especially hard because we just said goodbye to our beloved dog, Luna, on Sunday. Our hearts are already aching, and saying goodbye to another cherished family member so soon is incredibly difficult.

We’re going to lay Jewel to rest in the same garden as Luna, so they’ll both have a beautiful, peaceful place to rest together. It feels comforting to know they’ll always share that special spot.

Fly high, sweet Jewel. Thank you for all the laughs, the cuddles, and the unconditional love you gave us. You were deeply loved, and you’ll be missed more than words can express.

MITES OR LICE? lets fix that!!

You will need to order Elector PSP online. or get permethrin in the store like tractor supply - it’s cheap cheaper online .
It comes with mixing instructions,(i’ve added mixing instructions for both lector PSP and permethrin in the comments)

I recommend using the two-bucket method for the best coverage.

Choose a warm, hot day for treatment.

1. Thoroughly rinse each hen with a hose, making sure she is completely soaked from head to tail. There should be no dry feathers. Take your time—this can take a few minutes. This first rinse helps wash away many of the mites already on the bird.
2. Place the hen into the first bucket filled with clean water. Submerge her up to her chin and gently pour water over the top of her head to ensure every feather is fully saturated.
3. Fill the second bucket with warm (not hot) water mixed with either Elector PSP or permethrin, following the product’s mixing instructions.
4. Hold the hen in the treatment solution for 3–5 minutes, allowing the mixture to fully pe*****te through the feathers and reach the skin where mites live.
5. Remove the hen and allow her to air dry without rinsing her off. Leaving the treatment on the feathers and skin is what makes it effective.

This method is best done during warm weather so the birds can dry naturally. I do not recommend it during the winter unless you can bathe them indoors, such as in a shower, and thoroughly dry them afterward with a heated dog dryer or another safe warm-air dryer.

I’m so sorry I’ve not been posting. We have been working on our old property in St. Paul getting it ready for sale.- and my weekends are just full of working on that.
Years of animals in the house did quite a number and we’ve been doing a lot of work to make is suitable for a normal human being that are not animal caretakers.

A heartfelt reminder - we're still welcoming hens of all ages with open wings! However, we've reached capacity for roosters unless they have extraordinary needs that require special care. Fortunately, there are dedicated rooster rescues you can reach out to. Currently, we have a loving hen (yes she is a cross beak) nurturing a brood of adorable babies, so we're still accepting them. We're also open to ducklings and chicks, who will find their forever homes as adults and receive love, for a rehoming fee of $20 per bird. Chick and duckling drop-off is usually free - I don't normally charge a $40 flat fee for them, unless they are special needs and will be forever homed with me.

Does someone want her?
We don’t really do ducks- we took on some.. but Id rather she go to someone that wants her. She is a Swedish blue- Ill waive the rehoming fee if you come get her from us- (were in watertown) dont worry we will catch her- I think.
(if you have a olive egger to trade Id be most grateful)
