Miss Chris and Miss Karen's learning continued this afternoon with a stop at Old Acres Farm . The tour included showcasing a rotary that milks 80 cows at one time!!

🥛 Then it was time for a Milk Lab where groups worked together to make butter, buttermilk, whipped cream, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream talking about physical and chemical changes, and what unit operations and processes were used.

🥔 The day ended with a Chip-Dip Challenge with each group making their own "specialized" recipe to sample.

We'll be bringing these new ideas into a classroom near you soon! 😉 🏫

Miss Karen and Miss Chris are off and about learning today about potatoes!!

Trip includes a tour of CSS Farm in Bliss (western New York) where 4,000 acres are managed, harvested, cleaned and shipped throughout the Northeast for potato chips!

AND they grow at least 3 Cornell AgriTech Cornell University varieties: La mocha, Lady Liberty and Bliss (home of farm).

Amazing operation blending automation with hand labor ... bringing high quality products to our local shelves.

SAVE THE DATE! This program is available to youth ages 9 and up. More information and registration to come 🏹🍀

New York State 4-H Shooting Sports programs are led by trained instructors and focus on the fundamentals, safety, and benefits of shooting sports, hunting, wildlife conservation, and more.

Participants will learn confidence, problem solving, self-discipline, and other life skills through the 4-H “Learn by Doing” framework.

Let us shine a light on all the good that 4-H does by joining us TONIGHT to learn about membership, clubs, and activities that our 4-H Youth Program has to offer!

Registration is requested but not required. Register online at www.senecacountycce.org. If you do not have access to the internet, call 315-539-9251. Walk-ins are welcome. Come and leave when you please.

The office is located at 369 East Main Street in Waterloo, right next to Huntington Nursing Home in the former Taylor Brown Hospital.

If you have a child between the ages of 5 and 19, come experience the kinds of things 4-H has to offer. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, this is also a great evening to stop by.

Several hands-on stations will be set up for youth to explore and try hands-on, potentially messy (and definitely fun) STEM, gardening, cooking, and fiber craft activities. Some examples include making Wiggle-bots, learning how to make VR images on your own cell phones, and up-cycling juice pouches into wallets!

Current 4-H members will also be sharing some of their favorite 4-H opportunities which includes their experiences with different programs and trips.

🧀 Did someone say cheese?? 🧀

Another great week of Dairy in the Classroom NYS Farm to School Program - CCE Seneca New York Agriculture in the Classroom lessons!

Fifth graders at Cady Stanton and second graders at Frank Knight Elementary Seneca Falls Central School District were amazing "food scientists" as they taste-tested five different cheeses, including three made right here in Seneca County!

Students learned how cheese is made (curds and whey) and how people around the world use milk from other animals to meet their diet needs.

🍎 So thankful to the great teachers and staff for your continued enthusiasm and support! 😊
