The Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension Staff were out and about yesterday traveling around the county to search out the Seneca County Root b**r we will pair with Cornell Dairy Ice Cream during our Annual Celebration of Seneca County Root b**r Floats in July. We visited Three Brothers Wineries and Estates, Wagner Vineyards Estate Winery, and Fleur de Lis Brew Works. We even selected an Orange soda as Creamsicle Floats have been requested by taste testers in the past.

Curious what we have selected? Visit us next summer at Farmers Markets and the Cayuga and Seneca County 4-H Youth Fair to get a taste!

We make numerous efforts throughout the year to highlight and share local products as part of our Agriculture Economic Development Program. We encourage supporting local farms, agricultural producers, and agribusinesses.

We will be highlighting numerous other Seneca County products at our Annual Celebrate Seneca County Agriculture Event. All are welcome, join us!

Hey Flower Friend,

At this past Saturday’s “Let’s Garden Day” hosted by Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) we all got super-charged to dig right into spring gardening with-
✔️free references
✔️knowledgeable presenters
✔️a nutritional spread of food
✔️Master Gardener’s at the ready for all of our questions and
✔️generous door prizes

As one of 3 presenters I took attendees on a visual tour of my naturally evolving life, which has been Divinely designed from day 1 up to where I’m at now, in this ever-evolving nature and art education business 🥰 💐 🎨

And of course we had to create something using natural materials, so we took a “field trip” outside to sculpt vine wreaths. We then embellished them for spring using dried botanicals and blown out (naturally) colored eggs from our youngest chickens ♥️

The other presenters included-

🍒Roger Ort – Ort Family Farm
2761 Yorski Rd. Bradford NY 14815 607-583-2467
[email protected]
*Specializing in (specialty) Grafted Fruit Trees

Eager and super excited, Roger convinced us all of a variety of trees we need to have including the Paw Paw! It’s on my list and I plan to make an appointment at their farm early Fall to purchase a few to add to our orchard.

🪏Amanda Martinez – Graduate Student @ Cornell University, Department of Horticulture
*Educated us all on Soil Organic Matter

Andrea took us deep into the science of soil, confirming my “no dig”, chemical-free practice and use of compost, mulching with organic matter and keeping root systems in the soil year round, which benefits the fungi and mycelium who provide necessary nutrients to growing plants.
Now all I have to do is make sure all those “native species” don’t go to seed in my cut-flower beds 😳

Please feel free to reach out with any of your spring gardening and seed starting questions!
I’d be happy to help and wish you all the best,
🌷Danielle

We were so happy to be a part of STEPS Project annual Day of Service this year!

We had fun connecting with the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Women’s Ice Hockey Team 🏒 and were very appreciative of their help preparing Ovid Community Garden for hibernation this winter. Thank you for all of the help ladies!

If anyone is free next Saturday morning, we’ll be at Seneca County Community Garden for our annual Fall Fun Day! CCE Seneca Master Garden Volunteers will be demonstrating how to clean and care for your trellises and tools, and how to prepare your beds for winter after the harvest season has passed. We will have fun fall activities for youth and families provided by Seneca County 4-H NY, samples and recipes provided by Seneca CCE Master Food Preservers, handouts on putting your garden to rest, winter composting, upcoming events and more ! Please join us during 9am -11am if you’re able to next Saturday, October 17th 🍁
