A couple of weeks ago, Black Hawk County Extension and Outreach staff had a great time teaching Safety School at Hudson Elementary.

Students rotated through safety stations and learned important life skills through hands-on lessons. Just a few of the important safety lessons students explored included railroad safety, water safety, bicycle safety, and internet safety.

Thank you to Hudson Elementary for helping us make safety education fun and engaging for these young learners!

🐥 🐣 Our office is full of 450 baby bursts of sunshine!

If your 4-H family placed an order for soft velvety broiler chicks, please stop by our office to pick up your chicks as soon as you're able.

We are excited to watch these chicks grow between now and the fair with their 4-H families.
The Broiler Chick Project helps make poultry production accessible to youth while teaching responsibility, animal care, and civic engagement.

We can't wait to see their progress!

Welcome to the team Kaitlyn and Joy. We are glad you are here!
Kaitlyn may be new to Black Hawk County, but she is not new to Iowa State Extension. She most recently worked for Delaware County Extension, first as the Youth Educator Coordinator and then as their County Youth Coordinator. Joy is a long-term resident of Black Hawk County and joins us with over a decade of experience working in education-based non-profits.

Black Hawk County ISU Extension Dick Young greenhouse volunteers recently enjoyed an educational tour of the University of Northern Iowa's Botanical Center. The Master Gardeners learned about the diverse plant collections, soil amendments, and explored the beautiful spaces. Thank you to Stephanie and DJ for sharing your knowledge and providing the guided tour.
