A Full-Circle Journey
More than 30 years ago, Mike Isaacson walked through EPI's doors as a young college student unsure of where his future would lead.

Today, he serves as President of EPI's Board of Directors.

"What began with the thought, 'What am I doing?' soon transformed into 'This is what I was meant to do.'"

Just a few years ago, Rachel wasn't sure what her future would hold.

After experiencing a life-altering stroke at age 44, she found herself living in a facility, uncertain whether she would ever regain the independence she once enjoyed. She missed having a place of her own, meaningful work, and the freedom to make choices about her daily life.

Today, thanks to the support of EPI and people like you, Rachel's story looks very different.

She has a job she loves. She spends time with friends in her community. She enjoys visits with her children and grandchildren. Most importantly, she has a home of her own.

As Rachel proudly pointed to family photos displayed throughout her home, she smiled and said:

"This is my home."

Those four words represent something many of us take for granted: independence, belonging, and the opportunity to live a life of our own choosing.

Stories like Rachel's don't happen overnight. They happen when people are given the support, encouragement, and opportunities they need to pursue their goals and build the future they envision for themselves.

We're grateful to share that EPI has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa to support our Employment Services.

This morning, members of our team joined fellow nonprofit partners in celebrating the Foundation's continued investment in organizations working to strengthen communities across Northeast Iowa.

The timing could not be more fitting. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the value, contributions, and talents of workers with disabilities and the opportunities that help people achieve their goals, build independence, and thrive in the workplace.

Today, 148 individuals receive employment services through EPI, working an average of 29 hours per week and earning an average of $13 per hour.

Every job represents more than a paycheck. It represents confidence, purpose, community connection, and the opportunity to build a life of one's own choosing.
Thank you to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa for investing in opportunities that strengthen both individuals and our community.

Meet Rachel Moses, New Senior Program Coordinator at Permanent Planning Inc.!

Rachel Moses' EPI journey is a wonderful example of a core part of EPI's mission "nurturing growth".

Over the past 15+ years, Rachel has served in several roles across our organization, beginning as a Direct Support Professional and later spending 13 years as a Program Manager. Now, she is stepping into the role of Program Coordinator for Permanent Planning, Inc.

Rachel's commitment to building relationships, supporting individuals in achieving their goals, and advocating for person-centered services has made a lasting impact on those around her.

We're excited for this next chapter and know the individuals and families served by PPI are in excellent hands.

Today, we'd like to recognize someone many of us know and admire: Lori DeVries of Permanent Planning, Inc. (PPI), who is retiring after an incredible 37 years of service supporting individuals, families, and our community.

Throughout her career, Lori has been a trusted advocate, compassionate leader, and unwavering champion for the people she serves. Her dedication to ethical, person-centered guardianship has touched countless lives and helped strengthen the longstanding partnership between PPI and EPI.

As Lori begins this well-earned next chapter, we extend our deepest gratitude for her years of service, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of others.

💙🧡 Last week, we were able to keep the DSP Recognition Week celebration going thanks to our friends at Community Bank & Trust and Totally Rolled Ice Cream N/E Iowa!

We enjoyed an afternoon of ice cream, putt-putt, prizes, and great conversation as we continued recognizing the incredible people who make EPI's mission possible every day.

A huge thank you to Community Bank & Trust for sponsoring the event and to Totally Rolled Ice Cream for delivering another staff favorite!
