Dry Run Creek Watershed Improvement Project

Dry Run Creek Watershed Improvement Project Stay up to date on watershed projects, issues and events going on in Dry Run Creek, Cedar Falls! The Dry Run Creek watershed is in a state of constant change.

Urban development has produced habitat alteration and a drastic increase in the rate and volume of stormwater inputs. It is the goal of this project to work to repair the damage done to in-stream habitat and reduce the rate and volume of stormwater flow using infiltration practices. In addition agricultural lands will also require attention in an effort to reduce the delivery of eroded soils to th

e creek. Agricultural practices including grassed waterways, buffer strips, conservation tillage and many others will be used to achieve the desired reduction.

Funding opportunity with technical assistance provided for landowners within the Dry Run Creek and Middle Cedar Watersheds interested in stream buffers. Contact Ethan for more details.

Today, Secretary Mike Naig announced a new state-funded conservation cost-share pilot project supporting farmers and landowners in the watersheds upstream from the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids metropolitan areas.

The Streamside Buffer Initiative encourages farmers and landowners in key watersheds to add perennial buffers to fields along streams to improve water quality. The Secretary announced the pilot project during the Conservation Districts of Iowa's 79th Annual Meeting in Ames.
