What a great community initiative 🥤

The Waterloo Police Department is teaming up again with 7-Eleven, Inc. to reward local kids through the company’s community outreach program, Operation Chill®. Now in its 31st year, Operation Chill aims to promote positive police-youth engagement and neighborhood connection by empowering officers to reward kids they observe performing good deeds or displaying positive behavior with a coupon redeemable for a free small Slurpee® drink at participating 7-Eleven®, Speedway® and Stripes® stores. This year, 7-Eleven, Inc. will issue nearly 740,000 coupons to more than 1,300 participating law enforcement agencies nationwide, including the Waterloo Police Department.

Today!

What an incredible day it was yesterday!

This year’s event was a true example of neighbors helping neighbors. From those who walked, donated, volunteered, shared resources, sponsored, performed, or simply showed up — thank you for helping create a day filled with connection, support, and hope.

A special thank you to our local businesses and community partners who made this event possible through sponsorships, raffle donations, food, water, entertainment, and endless support.

We were especially inspired by the courage and strength of our youth speakers — Delaney, Taylor, and Emma — who bravely shared their personal stories and reminded us why these conversations matter.

The funds raised continue to support su***de prevention efforts throughout Seneca County, including safety initiatives, community events, access to resources, and programs that bring awareness and support to those who need it most.

Thank you to the LMC Protectors for their ongoing support and to EcoSpect for helping bring live entertainment from Clark Jackson to the Finger Lakes. 🎶

The final amount raised will be shared soon… but for now, thank you for showing what a community built on hope looks like! 💜

🚲🛴🛹 Helmet Safety Citations Are Back This Summer! 🛹🛴🚲

From June 28th through September 5th, Seneca Falls Police Department officers will be on the lookout for kids making safe choices while biking, skateboarding, roller skating, or riding scooters—and we'll be handing out **Helmet Safety Citations** as a reward for doing the right thing!

🎉 **What's a Helmet Safety Citation?**
It's a positive citation that can be redeemed for a small prize, thanks to the generosity of our local business partners. Think of it as our way of saying "thank you" for staying safe!

🚴 **Why Helmets Matter:**
• New York State law requires all children under 14 years old to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle or using similar wheeled devices.
• Approximately 54 New Yorkers lose their lives in bicycle crashes each year, and many were not wearing helmets.
• According to the New York State Department of Health, helmets can reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury by up to 88%.
• With the increasing popularity of e-bikes and scooters, wearing a helmet is more important than ever.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 **Parents, We Need Your Help!**
Please help us encourage safe riding habits by making sure helmets fit properly and are worn every ride. A properly fitted helmet is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help prevent serious injuries.

🏢 **Interested in Becoming a Sponsor?**
We are always looking for local businesses that would like to partner with us. Your support helps us encourage safe habits and build positive relationships with the youth in our community. If you're interested in participating, please contact the Seneca Falls Police Department for more information.

So kids, buckle that helmet, ride safely, and keep an eye out for our officers! Not only are you protecting yourself, but you might also earn a cool reward.

Let's make this another safe, fun, and helmet-smart summer! 🌞🚲🛴🛹
