Make Life Swyter

Make Life Swyter Our mission is to encourage being kind to each other with the belief that one act of kindness has the potential to save a life.

Make Life Swyter is a nonprofit created in loving memory of Tyler Swyter, who took his own life in October of 2015. Our mission is to encourage being kind to each other with the belief that one act of kindness has the potential to save a life by preventing su***de. On October 4, 2015, our beloved son, brother, nephew and grandson, Tyler Swyter, died by su***de at the young age of 21 years old. Tyl

er truly lived life to the fullest, always being a friend to everyone he encountered. He was kind, generous and thoughtful, and did what he could to make others feel special. He genuinely loved and cared about people, and only saw the best in us all. He was a very bright, yet sensitive, young man with a promising future ahead of him. Tyler battled depression on and off for several years, and in the end, depression took over and won. As Tyler's mom, I wanted to do something with su***de prevention and awareness in his memory, and this is how Make Life Swyter (sweeter) came to be. We can all do our part to make others feel cared about if we just take a moment to be kinder to each other and reach out to someone in need. It can make a world of difference for that person, and it could possibly save their life. A little act of kindness can go a long way in making someone feel valued and loved, and it is such a simple thing for us all to do. We never know what someone else may be going through, and sometimes showing them a little bit of kindness or compassion may be all they need in order to keep holding on. We host a large annual Acts of Kindness event each October. This event has become very popular among the Cedar Valley, and has touched hundreds of lives in a positive way. A few local businesses partner with us to help spread awareness, which is wonderful! Our hope is to grow this event year after year, so we can touch more people with kindness and save more lives. We hope you will join in our mission!

Some people are drowning in pain you’ll never see.
They laugh at work.
They show up for their families.
They post smiling pictures online…
…and then cry alone in the dark when no one’s watching.
This month — and every month — remember:
Not all pain is visible. Not all trauma leaves scars you can see.
To the ones silently battling depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, childhood trauma, or heartbreak so deep it changed the way they breathe…
We see you. We honor you. We’re holding space for you. 🕊️
If you’re struggling, your story isn’t over. You are not a burden. You are loved. And you are worth fighting for.
✨ Please check on your strong friends. Be kind on purpose. Love out loud.

A step in the right direction. Hopefully other states will follow suit!

Sharing information regarding su***de grief support group meetings being held by Locke Funeral Services in Waterloo. I was so happy to see this resource become available in the Cedar Valley.

Locke is who helped us with Tyler's funeral planning and services, and to say they went above and beyond for our family is an understatement. The kindness and empathy that every single staff member showed to us in our time of need has never been forgotten, and has always been appreciated. They hold a special place in our hearts and always will.

Join us for our grief support sessions this April.
