Quilts that Care Headquarters facility is located at 130 Scott Rd, Waterbury. We donate these amazing quilts to people undergoing cancer treatments, bringing them comfort, love and hope, one quilt at a time. QTC started in 2012 by Deborah and Robert Van Steenbergen and a few special friends wanting to make a difference in the lives of people undergoing cancer treatment. We started and continue to
meet at Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center two times a month; also continue with satellite meetings in Bristol and Litchfield. Our Headquarters is located at 130 Scott Rd in Waterbury, Connecticut. Since we started in 2012, we have made over 4000 quilts (as of January 2021). We keep growing, as our volunteer group grows to over 80, and we are able to continue to provide comfort to cancer patients with each quilt that we make. We are currently open Saturdays 10 am-1 pm. It is during this time we have skilled quilters teaching classes, answering questions and mentoring beginners. The rooms are set up with sewing and embroidery machines, with fabrics, backings, and battings. We are always looking for volunteers who want to help make quilts for cancer patients. However, a person doesn’t have to sew to help. We need people to coordinate materials, iron fabrics or put together quilt kits. Do you have an eye for color? You can help pick out fabric kits for volunteers to take home and sew. If you are a quilter, we have quilts in all stages of completions. Our volunteers coordinate materials, use cutting machines for fabrics, put together kits for quilts, sandwich tops and backings, hand or embroider labels. There is always something to do. Please come lend a hand and make a difference. Every person finds their own niche or niches! We are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit. We accept donations of 100% cotton material or batting, sewing and quilting machines, or fabric shop gift cards every Saturday from 10 am-1 pm. If you wish to make donation in the memory of a loved one, or just a monetary donation, that can be done through Pay Pal at quiltsthatcare.org or a check mailed to Quilts That Care, Inc. PO Box 166 Watertown, CT 06795. You can also help Quilts That Care by shopping on Amazon Smiles. A portion of your sale will be donated to the organization.
