Yesterday a time was had! With just weeks left in our Black & Latino Youth Leadership Fall Academy ( Afro Caribbean Cultural Center Inc x Building Legacy And Community), went to Broadway to see Buena Vista Social Club! 🎶🎟️

20 amazing youth joined us 10 riding Metro-North to NYC for the first time (and 4 on their very first train ride ever!) 🚆🗽 From Waterbury to the city, we opened doors to new experiences and a bigger world 🌎✨

BLAC is disappointed in the recent decision made by our local Black leaders to vote against measures that would have enabled increased access between people in the community and their local government proceedings. Their vote does not reflect the needs or concerns that many in our community have repeatedly raised. At a time when thoughtful, inclusive decision-making is essential, this choice feels like a step away from the values of transparency, responsiveness, and accountability that residents expect. We hope those leaders will listen more closely moving forward and work toward decisions that more clearly support the long-term well-being of everyone in our community, especially those that are disadvantaged.

Today, we broke into two teams to dive into budgeting, marketing, and media planning! Our youth designed lawn signs, door hangers, and even created their own radio ads—building real-world skills!
