17-year-old Lake Travis football player dies after suffering cardiac arrest during practice

The Lake Travis Independent School District has confirmed the death of 17-year-old Odin Hensley, who suffered a cardiac arrest after collapsing during football practice Monday morning, August 10. According to authorities, athletic trainers immediately responded before Austin-Travis County EMS arrived, and Odin was later airlifted by STAR Flight to Dell Children’s Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition for several days.

Odin was a Lake Travis High School senior and a dedicated athlete who competed in both football and wrestling. Hundreds gathered Wednesday at Lake Hills Church to pray for his recovery, but the district later announced that he had passed away during the night.

His death has left classmates, teammates, coaches and teachers devastated. Lake Travis ISD has made additional counselors available to support students and staff as they grieve the loss of a young athlete who had been part of the district since elementary school.

Officials have not yet announced what caused the initial medical emergency, and further medical examination is expected to provide additional answers. Odin went to practice that Monday morning preparing for his senior season; days later, an entire community is mourning a 17-year-old whose memory will remain far beyond the football field. 🕊️
