“The community, the engagement, the therapy, the integration, the after-school programs…were absolutely irreplaceable in making sure that they might have seen a safe adult for the first time in their life...” During the pandemic, Taylor became a foster parent when she had to close down her bookstore for two years, opening her home to 14 youth. Now back open, her store Black Birch Books, exclusively hires vulnerable and unhoused youth from My House employment services programs through . Taylor is walking the walk and is an example, personally and professionally, of what supporting our youth looks like.

Still buzzing from our Community Connection Carnival a couple of weeks ago! Mat-Su families and kiddos joined us for games, face painting, yummy treats, and connections. Social connections are an essential piece of health and child development. We look forward to this event every year, and we are grateful to everyone who joined us!

"It's ok to be conflicted." Listen as Peter shares bravely that the adult who had a positive impact on him was also his primary abuser. While this may not be the case for everyone, Peter’s story of forgiveness and growth is his and one he fearlessly shares with us. “Over the years, maintaining that connection allowed me to see that people can change and become better people, and there’s been apology and forgiveness and growth.”

“My mom has taught me a lot of valuable things in life that I’m so grateful…She never made me doubt myself, not one bit. I could be exactly who I wanted to be, it didn’t matter. She would always love me no matter what.” Adopted at 8 years old, Morgan shares how her adoptive mother was a steadfast role model for her and her three siblings. Now a mother herself, Morgan emphasizes the importance of watching over all children to ensure they have safe, caring, and supportive relationships.

Child abuse and neglect are preventable. When children, youth, families, and communities have the knowledge, skills, supports, and resources they need to thrive, we create the conditions that help keep kids safe. From parenting resources and trusted adults to strong communities and supportive policies—every piece plays a role in prevention. 🌱 Together, we can build an Alaska where every child has the opportunity to grow up safe, supported, and ready to thrive. 🔗 Learn more about prevention: alaskachildrenstrust.org/child-abuse-prevention-month

Child abuse and neglect prevention is up to every Alaskan. When neighbors check in on each other, when communities support families, and when adults step up to protect kids, we create a network of care across our state. 💙 Alaska is strong, and together, we are more than capable of building communities where every child grows up safe, stable, and supported. 🔗 Learn more about prevention efforts: alaskachildrenstrust.org/child-abuse-prevention-month

Parents and caregivers want the best for their children—and having access to information about developmental milestones can make a big difference. Understanding how children grow and develop helps caregivers recognize what’s typical, identify when extra support may be helpful, and build stronger connections with their kids along the way. 📚 When families have access to knowledge and resources, children are more likely to grow up safe, healthy, and supported. 🔗 Explore Alaska Children’s Trust and Alaska529's children’s growth charts: alaskachildrenstrust.org/materials
