The Winter Solstice officially begins today at 6:27 PM, as the sun will be directly over the Tropic of Capricorn.

It's the shortest day of the year, with Anchorage seeing 5 hours 27 minutes of daylight. Starting tomorrow we begin the journey back into more daylight.

Here's to hoping winter is a lot nicer to us when it comes to the snow these next few months.❄️❄️❄️

Politely ripped off from meteorologist Aaron Morrison. 😊

"Why Fresh Produce Pack?" You ask?

Many of us don't need 12.5 lbs of carrots at a time. Or 5.5 lbs. of broccoli at a time. Or 8 bunches of Parsley. Or 6 bundles of greens, or even salad lettuce for that matter.

Each cycle, we put a variety of items in the Produce Pack, based on value, that are an ideal addition to the vegetables and fruits that we do choose by at least the quarter case (as required on the Organically Grown Company order).
These items are always fresh produce, and most typically include these items on a rotating basis:
VEG: Avocado, sweet onion, scallion, cucumber, red pepper, lettuce (usually Romaine), broccoli, chard, kale, spinach, baby bok choy, carrots, sweet potato, parsley, cilantro, radishes, and occasionally an odd-ball item just to shake it up like Cauliflower, Celery, Radicchio.
FRUIT (More seasonal): Pears, Apples, Oranges, Lemons, Melons, Grapes, Peaches, Nectarines, Plums, Grapefruits, Kiwis.

The Produce Pack ALWAYS has more value in it than you pay for, based on wholesale cost plus shipping, and if items that arrive are in too poor of condition to distribute, we will reduce the cost of that Produce Pack to you. We absorb overages out of the Handling Fees - because it is nearly impossible to get it exactly at $39.99.

RIGHT NOW (12/11/2023 only) at the only 5% handling fee discount for this cycle, there has never been a better time to try out a Produce Pack as an add-on to your regular order, or a stand-alone item to try out the co-op.

We recommend 1 Pack for 1-2 people, 2 Packs for 2-3 people, 3 Packs for 3-5 people, and so on. 😊

Configuration choices are: Roughly 50/50 Veg/Fruit or 75/25 Veg/Fruit for those who want more veg and less fruit.

Today marks 4 years of Wholesome Food Co-Op! Thank you all for helping keep this community strong.

We have been through a lot, and a lot of our startup members have moved out of state.

There's room for the co-op to grow, so please, share us with your friends and family that live within driving distance of Wasilla. ❤️ this will help keep a strong moving forward!

Growth benefits individuals by having more people to fill cases. Even on obscure items. It's a win-win for everyone!

MEET OUR MAY BRAND OF THE MONTH —
TWIN ENGINE COFFEE (Frontier Co-op)
If you don’t think your coffee purchase can make a difference, think again. At Twin Engine Coffee, they make their coffees locally where they grow in Nicaragua. They're more than a coffee company, they're a coffee community.
By containing the entire process to the local community where the coffee is grown, they're able to keep 400% more resources in the local community than coffees roasted in the United States. That makes them a fully bean-to-bag organization & one of the only “Roasted at the Source” organic specialty coffees on the market.

This is the best batch of chili I’ve ever made. The only thing I know of that I did different, was add vegetable broth. It simmered a little too long and got a little dry. Flavor was incredible. I think I’ll do that every time from now on! Every single ingredient in the pot from the Wholesome Creek co-op (except local meat) … including the Green onions and sour cream for the toppings!!!

We have it sorted and prepared for pickup, late in the afternoon, on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, and you can participate one time, or as a subscription. 😀 Pickup is at Valley Church of Christ in Wasilla, on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway near Home Depot.
