On this day in 1973, the last U.S. combat troops left Vietnam and our prisoners of war finally came home. Today, we pause to remember, honor, and thank the brave men and women who served during the Vietnam War.
More than 2.7 million Americans answered the call. Over 58,000 gave their lives. Many more carried the invisible wounds of war for the rest of their lives.
They served with courage in difficult circumstances and deserved a hero’s welcome when they returned — today we make sure they receive the gratitude and respect they always deserved.
To every Vietnam veteran and their families:
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
We see you. We remember you. We honor you.
