CEDR - Center for Ecodynamic Restoration We re-connect Nature with Humans to create a new harmony in sustainability.

The Center for Ecodynamic Restoration (CEDR) connects the natural world with human activities in an integrated cooperation that fosters sustainability. This entails restoring native systems into human activities such that they work together in an holistic fashion. We extend this effort to include education as an integral part of achieving our mission. Collectively we all share this small Earth and

it behooves us as humans to work with and in concert with our natural surroundings to reach harmony and sustainability. Projects include:
* GROWL (Great Restoration Opportunities on Wild Lands) located at Guy's Gulch Ecological Reserve in Yreka, Ca.
* St Cloud Recreation Site Restoration, Stevenson, Wa
* Collins Slide Area Restoration, Columbia River Gorge, Wa

Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who gave their time to help us pile slash for future burning. It was a great way to honor Farmworkers Day of Service. Thanks especially to our local GrizzlyCorps fellows for their continued support of Guys Gulch Ecological Reserve.

🐻 Did you know the black bears here at Guys Gulch have their own spa?

This bear wallow is a shallow pool created and used by local bears as their very own natural bathtub.

Black bears make wallows like this by scooping out soil and letting water collect. They use it to cool off, relax, and escape the heat and pesky insects. It’s just one of the many signs that our wildlife here is active, healthy, and thriving.

🦅 Bird ID: Predator vs. Prey Edition 🐦⁣

Nature is full of fascinating relationships, and one of the most dynamic is between birds of prey and the smaller birds they share the sky with. Today, we’re highlighting both sides of that balance.

Can you identify these birds?

Here’s a new beautiful edition to Guys Gulch Ecological Reserve painted by This piece brings together some of the most iconic symbols of our region, the Franklin’s bumble bee, a vibrant native bluebird, blooming California poppies, and the steady presence of Mt. Shasta.

A celebration of endangered species, native beauty, and the landscapes that define us.
Honored to share this glimpse of the wild through art. 🎨⛰️

🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from Guys Gulch Reserve 🍂

This Thanksgiving, we want to give thanks to the incredible volunteers who help Guys Gulch thrive. Earlier this week a group of volunteers joined us to plant seeds, continuing the important work of enhancing the landscape.

We are so grateful for everyone who shows up season after season, to support restoration efforts. Your time and effort make it possible for this land to thrive.

If you’re interested in being a volunteer feel free to reach out to us at (530) 937-4497 and we will get you set up with Sydney our outreach coordinator

Wishing you all a warm, safe, and meaningful holiday season. 🧡🌲

For anyone based in Northern California 🌄 🌿

We have great opportunities to volunteer at Guys Gulch Ecological Reserve and learn about native pollinator plants and the pollinators who love them!

This project is part of our ongoing pollinator habitat restoration 🦋 🐝

We are funded through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Conservation Fund to enhance 109 acres of the reserve for pollinators. Come join the fun!

🐍❓Mystery Monday!❓🐍

A few weeks ago we posted some photos of a gorgeous Northern Pacific Rattlesnake with some fun facts about their diet 🐀🐇 Shortly after that post, our team working down on Guys Gulch Ecological Reserve witnessed a Northern Pacific Rattlesnake mid-meal, but eating something they had never seen them eat before… 👀

Can you guess what it is⁉️Comment below ⬇️

This week we’re featuring…The Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus)!🐍

⁉️Did you know?⁉️

📍They span from southern British Columbia all the way to northern Mexico!

🐭 Northern Pacific Rattlesnakes are a keystone species that help control rodent and small mammal populations!

📏 Most adults average 3 feet long, but can get up to 5 feet long!

🐍 Their rattler is used to AVOID conflict and is a warning system that says they don’t want to strike! Just walk away slowly if you hear a rattle, don’t try to lift wood stacks or other hiding places in an attempt to see them.

🏔️ In colder climates, they hibernate in communal dens with other Northern Pacific rattlesnakes and other species of snakes!

🥾 When hiking, stay aware of your surroundings and stay on the trail! Give these awesome snakes the space and respect they deserve! They are so important to our ecosystem 🌿
