On Saturday our Talent Search Finals brought together an incredible group of young musicians for an unforgettable afternoon of jazz. Congratulations again to all of this year’s finalists and performers for taking the stage and making the event so special.

Swinging Saturdays is in full swing 🎷

For the past month, students have been joining us every Saturday at ACES Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven to explore jazz — learning about the music’s history, playing in small groups, and even creating their own songs through music production.

Grateful to the New Haven Register for shining a light on Swinging Saturdays, our new FREE Saturday program at ACES Educational Center for the Arts! This free 18-week program gives students ages 12–17 the chance to learn from Grammy-winning artists, explore jazz history, songwriting, recording, and movement.

Young people in New Haven will soon be able to learn from Grammy-winning musicians for free.

The Litchfield Jazz Camp will be hosting Swinging Saturdays, a free music program open to those 12 through 17 years of age, starting Jan. 24, according to a news release.

Throughout the 18-week program held at the ACES Educational Center for the Arts, students will learn lyric writing, jazz history, how to record using equipment, swing and Latin dance.

The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Litchfield Jazz Camp and the 45th year of Litchfield Performing Arts, whose first concert was held in my North Street living Room on January 31, 1981. Fifty-one people attended. And the rest is history. It’s a heartwarming tale of changing the world for the best, or our part of it at least, through music.

This year, we’re thinking about the many moments music has brought people together. We’ve built a place where jazz thrives— on festival stages, in camp classrooms, and in the lives of students and artists from around the world. At the core of our work is a simple belief—that music is for everyone. It should be welcoming, accessible, and deeply human.

As we look ahead to milestone anniversaries, we’re grateful for your support and belief in this work. You make it possible. From all of us at Litchfield Performing Arts, we wish you a joyful holiday season and a new year filled with connection, creativity, good music and peace.
