We are hosting and competing at our school at Upper Central League Tournament. This is our last chance to compete for state championship held in March.

02/10/2020

On Sunday February 16th, students from the Engineering program and the Robotics Team #5339 W.A.L.K.E.R.S will be hosting the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Upper Central League Tournament. This tournament is considered the last chance for teams to qualify for the state championship held on March 15th. The event will start around 10:00 am and run until approximately 5:00 pm.

This tournament is open to the public and the school will be packed for the majority of the day. We are expecting 20-25 teams (250-300 people) from NJ, PA and NY to compete this year.

Students in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete head to head and make alliances with other teams. Participants develop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills and practice engineering principles while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards.

At our qualifier today we won the Motivate Award which is celebrates the team that exemplifies the essence of the FTC competition through team spirit and enthusiasm. They show their spirit through costumes and fun outfits, a team cheer or outstanding spirit.

We also got nominated for the Inspire Award which given to the team that truly embodied the 'challenge' of the FTC program. The team that receives this award is chosen by the judges as having best represented a 'role model FTC Team.

Both awards are great achievements but the Inspire Award is our goal and is considered the best overall team. It is a great honor to be nominated or considered the top three overall teams of the day. We are striving to be qualified for the state championship.
