Washington Township Panthers

Washington Township Panthers Youth football and cheering organization with a long history of supporting the children of Washington Township (Warren County) NJ. Needless to say we lost 26-0.

Our program was started in 1957 by Dick Rhinehart, Fred Breda, Mel Kries, Floyd Opdycke, Dick Pulsinelli, Richard Teusen and Mike Sadlon as part of the Washington Township Youth Association. We built the field where it is today by hand using the Brass Castle Creek for irrigation. We played our first game in Hackettstown. Our game pants hadn't been delivered so we had to borrow pants from Hackettst

own to play. At that time we were known as the Cubs and our colors were scarlet and grey. The first year we only had practice games and then we entered the Warren County League in the early 1960's. We ran the Single Wing formation which drove the other teams crazy! At one point in the 60's we won 28 games in a row, as well as 3 League Championships. At that time we only weighed in twice, once in the beginning of the season and then at the All Star Game. The weight was 110 pounds and each organization only fielded one team. The younger team only played practice games. We built the refreshment stand and the equipment building with volunteers. Dick Pulsinelli and his apprentices did most of the work. With the soccer craze coming in the 1970's we were forced to pull out of the league due to lack of players. We got rid of our equipment, including leather helmets, and were dormant until 1993. In 1993 we went to the Washington Township Committee and proposed bringing football back to the township. We played our first game as the Panthers in 1995.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of a beloved member of the Panther family, Kellye Kries.

Kellye recently lost her courageous battle with cancer, passing peacefully with her family by her side.

Kellye was part of the foundation of the Panther program, and her impact reached across generations. Her journey with the Panthers began as a football mom and grew into so much more. She became a coach, Cheer Director, Panther board member, mentor, and friend. But perhaps the roles she cherished most were simply being a football and cheer Nana.

Kellye's dedication to youth and her community extended well beyond Washington Township. She was the founder of the highly successful Jr. Streaks Cheerleading program, creating opportunities and memories for countless young athletes. In recognition of her years of service and lasting impact, Kellye was inducted into the Warren County Midget Football League Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2022.

Kellye gave so much of herself to the programs, children, and families she cared about. She was part of the foundation of Panther Cheer, and remained a part of the Panther family until her very last breath.

Kellye will be deeply missed, but the impact she made will remain. Her commitment to the Panthers, her community, and above all, her family will forever be remembered.

For those wishing to pay their respects, services for Kellye will be held Wednesday, August 26th, from 1:00–3:00 PM and 6:00–9:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home in Washington, NJ.

Once a Panther, always a Panther.

Rest peacefully, Kellye. 🩵🖤
