Literacy Council of Southwestern Pennsylvania

Literacy Council of Southwestern Pennsylvania The Literacy Council of Southwesten Pennsylvania is ready to help you achieve your personal goals for literacy!

Since 1985, the LCSWPA has worked with over 1300 people to improve their literacy skills. In the Adult Literacy and GED Tutoring services, one-on-one training sessions are conducted using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and the Barsch Learning-style Analysis to assess the learner's level and match them with a trained tutor. Weekly, one-on-one training sessions are conducted using timely a

nd relevant educational materials and supplemental reading. Assessments are made each time a reading level is achieved. Monthly tutor reports are included in the overall assessment of the student. Volunteer tutors must attend a Training Workshop before being matched with an adult non-reader. In our last fiscal year, we had 41 active students who attended 620 hours of class. So far this year (from July 1, 2012 to Feb 28, 2013) we have had 42 active students who have attended 906 hours of class.
