“Karen,” the public bathroom, 🚽and the ADA💪
Today, while in one of the many public bathrooms that Tommy frequents, Mom was proud that Tom locked the stall door. She did not have stand there endlessly holding it shut. Females came in, used the facilities, and left.
“Karen” interrupted Mom’s humming along to Thomas the Train coming from Tommy’s phone.
She stated, “Me and several other females were talking and we are uncomfortable with him in here.” “Karen” spoke of his size and that she talked to management and they said Mom should use the men’s room.
Mom laughing: “No they did not.”
“Karen” says yes, she asked and the men also say it is okay. (So glad she has equally polled the men and women.)
“You understand we are just uncomfortable.” Then “Karen” proceeds to discuss her views on gender and the bathroom…
Mom: “I really do not care about your comfort or your views on gender.”
Mom explains that the ADA recommends that bathroom usage to be based upon caregiver s*x and it would be inappropriate for Mom to use the men’s room. Mom referred “Karen” to the WV Human Rights Commission.
Tommy now watching Nemo on his phone ignores everyone and leaves. Mom follows him…
In the walk way, “Karen’s” male companion approaches Mom and starts talking about Tom’s size and offering assistance. (Tom outweighs this fragile man by about 100 pounds.).
Mom: “What in the world are you two talking about.”
Tom waits for no one, so Mom laughs and walks away.
Outside, management staff chases after us and asks if the old man was bothering us. The Starbucks staff called up about two weird old people that wanted a disabled boy and his caregiver to use the men’s room. The Manager was ‘appalled’ and apologized.
Mom: “It was really appalling when they told a female to use the men’s bathroom.”
Manager said she would address the group and thanked Tommy and Mom.
Thanks to Tommy for spreading .
