To many, these photos may look like just another end-of-season parents vs. players soccer game. But what you don’t see is the deep-rooted love for the game and the generations of community that stand behind this team.
Behind these players is the story of a Washington family whose passion for soccer has helped shape this community for more than 50 years.
David Bourne, Monica Gleb’s father, stepped in to “coach” the girls team while the parents did their best to pull off a win. After the game, he shared how much fun the night was and how it brought back memories of his years playing and coaching through WSA.
In 1972, David helped establish the Franklin County Soccer Association. Just one year later, the Washington Soccer Association, now Washington Soccer Academy, was founded. Over the years, he coached countless teams, including the St. Francis Borgia girls program and many of Monica’s own teams.
Monica later married Josh Gleb, and when they returned home to Washington with their children, Lily and Lucas, they continued that same spirit of service by coaching and investing in the next generation of players.
This is what community roots look like.
Not just soccer games, but generations pouring into generations.
Memories shared across decades.
Families giving back to the town that helped raise them.
We are incredibly grateful for families like the Bournes and Glebs, whose love for the game, and for this community, continues to leave a lasting impact.
