🎨 4-H Families: Help your 4-H'er get ready for judging in Visual Arts, Home Improvement, and Clothing & Fashion!

Successful design exhibits do more than look good—they show an understanding of the elements and principles of design.
Encourage youth to think about and be prepared to discuss:

🔹 Elements of Design: line, shape, color, texture, form, and space
🔹 Principles of Design: balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity

When preparing for judging, ask your 4-H'er:
✨ Which design elements did you intentionally use?
✨ How do the colors, textures, or shapes work together?
✨ What is the focal point of your design?
✨ How does your design create balance or unity?
✨ What design choices are you most proud of?

Judges want to hear how youth used design concepts to create a project that is both functional and visually appealing. Practicing these conversations before the fair can help build confidence and showcase the learning behind the exhibit.
