National Studio-Based Yoga Outreach Programs
Yoga Activist's mission is to help yoga studios and communities develop and maintain outreach programs that serve people within their broader communities. For studios already providing outreach, Yoga Activist strives to provide networking opportunities, information about population-specific trainings and training materials for studios’ programs. Yoga A
ctivist also aims to recognize the good work being done within local communities through the development of grants for excellence in service. Support For Volunteer Yoga Teachers
Teachers choose a targeted community to which they would like to teach yoga. If there is a studio in their area that supports outreach to that community, then we will connect them with that studio. If there is not a studio that supports yoga outreach to that community locally, Yoga Activist will contact studios in the area to facilitate a program with which that teacher can work. We will also provide teachers with information on training programs. Support for Social and Human Services Organizations
Organizations that provide service and support to specific communities and that would like to add yoga to their programming can contact YogaActivist.org to find Yoga studios in their community that provide outreach specific to their needs. If there is not an appropriate program running in that community, YogaActivist.org will work with a local studio to foster the development of a program that meets the needs of those served by the organization. In order to cultivate and support a sustainable national yoga outreach campaign, we are committed to the following endeavors:
1. Preparing volunteers
YogaActivist aims to provide its volunteer yoga teachers with access to high-quality training that prepares them to teach yoga appropriately for their target community.
2. Tracking programs to measure success
YogaActivist.org surveys the studios, teachers, students, and community organizations with whom it interacts, not only to measure the success of program implementation, but also to document the effects of yoga and meditation on target populations. Results will be disseminated through the YogaActivist.org website, press releases, and program reports.
3. Building community
YogaActivist.org provides a way for those who cannot participate in yoga outreach as volunteer teachers or students to support the organization. Make a donation and/or become a supporting member online at www.YogaActivist.org.
4. Recognizing excellence in service
Community recognition of volunteer yoga teachers and their students is supported through the Featured Teacher and Featured Student sections on www.YogaActivst.org, as well as through awards, grants, and scholarship programs.
