Great training opportunity!
PEAK 3 LEADER TRAINING WEEKEND
Registered Adult men are invited to participate in Peak 3 training at Deep Valley Christian Camp in Slippery Rock PA, April 17-19, 2026. This is a Trail Life National training event hosted by the Northeast Region. Trained volunteers from throughout the Northeast Region will be putting on this excellent training event for you.
This course and two-night camping weekend is primarily for volunteers supporting Navigators and Adventurers, although it is very beneficial for woodland leaders and fathers to attend being open to all registered adult men in Trail Life. The course is designed as an in-person training event to practice the outdoor skills needed to effectively mentor young Trailmen. Peak 3 simulates a Troop camping setup with an emphasis on the Patrol method. Therefore, participants will be assigned to Patrols and serve in roles as if they were youth Trailmen. The goal is to emphasize and teach participants the basic skills or knowledge for a patrol method campout. Topics will include setting up campsite, wood tools, knots & lashings, map & compass, backpacking, outdoor cooking, fire building, campfires, flag ceremonies, camp games and more.
The subjects covered include:
Patrol Method for camping and Troop Meetings
Setting up troop and patrol campsites
Cooking and sanitation
The patrol method, patrol spirit, duty rosters, health and safety
Flags and Ceremonies
Navigation (Map and compass)
Wood Tools
Ropework
