Today a small group of fiber lovers got together at Evening Star Grange to learn the art of spinning yarn with a drop spindle. A big thank you to Susannah from Red Oak Farm Maine for coming down to teach this class with wool from her own sheep, Frank, and drop spindles she made. Everyone got to go home with some yarn they spun themselves and a drop spindle to continue to practicing on. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. 🐏

A few days ago a community member reached out to us with an idea and items for the Community Veggie Stand and we thought it was an amazing idea. Keeping names anonymous but thanks to a caring local there are now two containers in the stand, one for brand new hygiene products and one for paper products. ❤️

As always the Community Veggies Stand is available to anyone in need, no judgement and anonymous, take what you need and leave what you don’t.

This just in, there are eggs in the Community Veggie Stand!

We would also like to take this as an opportunity it remind people that they are always welcome to drop off extra eggs, vegetables, fruits, berries, herbs, etc at the Community Veggie Stand to share with anyone who might be in need. ❤️

*full disclosure this photo is just of eggs I had on hand and not of ones in the stand so there may not be any blue ones. 😆

Being hosted at our Grange! Have you have ever thought about keeping a couple dairy goats?

This is a perfect little intro class full of information; how to pick the right goat, goat care, clean milking and more.

$20 a person, discount for 4H kids. ❤️

I’m putting on a goat class!! I’ve been asked by a few people now if I would teach a class about dairy goats and dairy licensing but I always worry about judgement towards the fact that I haven’t been doing this as long as others but when Hawthorn & Thistle Farmstead reached out to me about trying to get more people out to and interested in a Grange I couldn’t say no!

A little bit about a grange “The Grange is a family, community organization with its roots in agriculture. Founded in 1867, the Grange was formed as a national organization with a local focus. Our members are given the opportunity to learn and grow to their full potential as citizens and leaders.” - National grange

The coolest thing about a grange is that since the beginning women have been seen as equal, it was the first national organization that let us have an equal vote!

With that being said, I’d love to have some of you out to support a local grange! I may not be an expert and I won’t be giving out expert, veterinary or medical advice but I am a real dairy farmer who has managed to keep all of my goats alive and happy for over 4 years while raising small children of my own and running a, what I would consider successful licensed dairy farm and business considering our size and age, so I’ll do the best I can to share what I’ve learned so far ✨
