Lester A. Unnerstall

May 17, 1932 - August 14, 2026

Lester A. Unnerstall,94, of Washington, passed away on August 14, 2026. Les, son of the late Otto Unnerstall and Clare nee Tobben, was born on May 17, 1932, in Washington. He received his education from St. Francis Borgia High School and Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, in 1958. On August 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Brooksie Turner at the St. Francis Borgia Church. Mr. Unnerstall served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army.

Les was employed by Mallinckrodt Chemical Works in 1958. While working there, he also received a Patent for one of the projects that he was involved in.

He also loved bowling and in 1963 he opened the bowling alley in Washington. Les bowled 6, 300 games and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Four Rivers Bowling Association, Missouri State Bowling Association, and past President of the Missouri State Bowling Proprietors.

Mr. Unnerstall was also very involved in the Washington community, being a member of the Lions Club, Elks, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, and past President of the Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lance Unnerstall, and three brothers, Orville Unnerstall, Kenny Unnerstall, and Wilbert Unnerstall.

Among his survivors are his wife, Brooksie Unnerstall of Washington; two children, Kean Unnerstall and wife Lynn of Florida and Traci Unnerstall of Washington; two grandchildren, Hannah and Shelby Whitacre; other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Parish Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Memorial donations can be made to the St. Francis Borgia Regional High School or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
