The U.S. government went into shutdown mode at midnight Eastern Time on October 1st. Due to the lack of appropriations funding, U.S. Department of Agriculture staff deemed "non-essential" and have been prevented from staffing their offices, which will have an impact on farmers. This includes all Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) staff and Farm Service Agency (FSA) staff.

The Washington County Conservation District will still be available to assist our customers. We are funded through county and state dollars NOT federal dollars. We are fortunate to have a partnership with NRCS which allows us office space at the USDA Service Center located in Washington. However, since the shutdown has occurred, Conservation District staff are not allowed in the USDA Service Center or have access to a government computer/email while FSA and NRCS are shutdown.

District staff will be available remotely during the shutdown.
Either call 785-747-7666 or email [email protected] and we will do our best to assist you during this time. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this shutdown may cause.

Thanks,
Nina, Amy, Gavin and the WCCD board of supervisor

🌟 Kansas Shines at the National Level!

Kansas made a strong impression at the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD), demonstrating leadership, advocacy, and creativity in conservation!

🏛️ Representatives from KACD and the Employees Organization proudly attended the NACD Spring Fly-In in Washington D.C., where they met with legislators to advocate for policies that support conservation efforts back home in Kansas.

💼 Kansas also ranked among the top 10 states for Contribution Memberships, showing our state’s dedication to supporting NACD programs and initiatives.

🎨 And a big congratulations to Keira J. from Washington County, who earned 2nd Place in the NACD National Poster Contest (2nd & 3rd-grade category)! Her artwork captured the importance of environmental awareness and stewardship at a young age.

👏 We’re proud of everyone who helped represent Kansas at the national level—you’re helping shape a stronger, more sustainable future.
