As we prepare for Memorial on the last Monday of May (25th), a few reminders for those who already know, and perhaps a little educational moment for those who do not know.
As per the US Flag Code, the US Flag is lowered to half-staff at sunrise on Memorial Day. This is to mourn all those brave American men & women who lost their lives in service to this great country!
If you have a flag that flys off your front porch, then you can add a strip of black nylon to the top grommet and let it fly against the flag to signify the flag is at half-staff.
Then at noon, the flag is raised to full-staff to honor their memory and is raised by the living who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty". You would then take the black strip off of your front porch flag to signify the flag is at full-staff.
And then at 3:00 pm local time, with the flag at full-staff, "we honor the fallen in a National Moment of Remembrance". This is a time for us to pause, reflect, and remember all those who sacrificed their lives while in military service.

Easy reminder:
- Memorial Day is not a day of celebration. It is a day of remembrance, honor, relection and further committment to always strive for freedom in any way possible to our specific abilities.
- Veterans Day IS a day of celebration for all those who are alive, retired and for those still serving.
