This is more reflective and therapeutic for me: I’ve heard people question why humans get dogs or why we form relationships with them? This dog right here made a huge impact on my life. She came into our family the week I had my stroke and stayed by my side through all the difficulties of recovery and beyond. More than that, she gave me purpose and drive and a reason to keep going when I didn’t want to. Life can be brutal at times and she was there by my side, wagging her tail and dropping me a ball to play with. Above my needs she was also a huge resource to the community and as a certified search and rescue dog was able to bring comfort to mourning families in their time of need by helping to bring their loved ones home.

Today, from a distance on a needed vacation, I found out she crossed the rainbow 🌈 bridge. She died doing what she loved - playing ball with the kids. By leaving she has left a hole in my heart that will never be filled - but man am I forever grateful for the part she played in my life. Because in reality - she saved my life.
Each of the kids claimed her as their dog - but everyone knew she was my dog.

Zion got officially certified for Search and Rescue work this past weekend. It’s been over a year of training and hard work and she has done a wonderful job. It’s truly amazing to see her work and perform. She absolutely loves the work but more importantly loves to play.

I give you Zion the heat seeking missile. When she’s looking for someone alive in the wilderness she follows their smell and finds them. Then her job is to come back to me (the out of shape can’t keep up handler) and tell me she found someone and then guides me to where they are. She’s not very patient. Bodi’s always happy to be the lost victim (when and if there’s a treat afterwards - gotta make a living)
