This is more reflective and therapeutic for me: I’ve heard people question why humans get dogs or why we form relationships with them? This dog right here made a huge impact on my life. She came into our family the week I had my stroke and stayed by my side through all the difficulties of recovery and beyond. More than that, she gave me purpose and drive and a reason to keep going when I didn’t want to. Life can be brutal at times and she was there by my side, wagging her tail and dropping me a ball to play with. Above my needs she was also a huge resource to the community and as a certified search and rescue dog was able to bring comfort to mourning families in their time of need by helping to bring their loved ones home.
Today, from a distance on a needed vacation, I found out she crossed the rainbow 🌈 bridge. She died doing what she loved - playing ball with the kids. By leaving she has left a hole in my heart that will never be filled - but man am I forever grateful for the part she played in my life. Because in reality - she saved my life.
Each of the kids claimed her as their dog - but everyone knew she was my dog.
