We're excited to share that our library has once again earned Tier 3 Accreditation from the State Library of Iowa! Tier 3 is the highest level of accreditation, recognizing libraries that meet rigorous standards for governance, collections, services, technology, planning, and community support. For a library our size, achieving and maintaining Tier 3 status is something we're especially proud of!

While accreditation happens behind the scenes, it reflects our commitment to providing excellent service, being good stewards of public resources, and continuing to grow with our community.
Thank you to our staff, board, city leaders, and patrons for helping make this possible. We're proud to serve you!

🐝📚 What a spelling‑bee‑utiful night! Our Spelling Bee Fundraiser brought the community together in support of the Washington Public Library, combining friendly competition with a great cause.

The audience cheered, the words got tricky, and every participant helped make a difference.

Facebook bidding will close TUESDAY, April 7 at NOON. High bids will be noted and in-person bidding will start at 5 pm at the Library. If you're unable to attend in person, make sure your bid is a good one! Spectators (and bidders!) are welcome at the Spelling Bee!

WFPL Foundation’s Spelling Bee and Silent Auction is coming up on Tuesday, April 7! Silent Auction items are listed in this post (additional details– dimensions, artist, etc.– about each item are in the comments field for each item). Here’s how it works: Bidding starts NOW on Facebook (add a comment with your bid amount) and continues until NOON on April 7. High bids will be noted and then bidding will continue IN PERSON beginning at 5 pm on April 7 until 7 pm. Winners may pick up their items that evening or later in the week at the Library (deadline: Friday, April 10). Payment by cash or check is preferred or winners may pay online through the WFPL Give Butter portal. Selected items can be viewed in person NOW in the Library’s 2nd Floor display case.

Throwback to last year’s spelling bee 🐝✨

What an unforgettable experience! From the intense rounds to the cheering crowd, every moment was filled with excitement, nerves, and so much learning. Watching everyone give it their all and spell some seriously challenging words was inspiring 👏

Win or lose, it wasn’t just about spelling—it was about raising funds for a wonderful organization.
