Today is September 25 (9/25), and we are celebrating the legendary Dolly Parton and her incredible legacy of love, music, and literacy.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has gifted over 200 million free books to children worldwide. The Washington Free Public Library Foundation - Washington, IA is a proud partner of the Imagination Library by providing free books to children in Washington County. Here are two ways to celebrate like Dolly today.

📚 💖 If you have a child aged 0-5 that lives in the 52353 area, you can register them to receive a high-quality book in the mail every single month for free!

📩 💲Participate in the Dollywood Foundation's "Donate Like Dolly" initiative by making a donation to cover the costs for this amazing program. While the Dollywood Foundation generously covers the logistical work of getting books out, it is the local partners like our Foundation that fund the books and shipping. The links for ways to contribute are in the comments.

Regarding our Dolly Parton Imagination Library -

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too and will carry on. Every month, over 200 children in our community find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.

Tier 3 is the highest level of accreditation.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this, including the tremendous staff at our library for all they do! 📚

We're excited to share that our library has once again earned Tier 3 Accreditation from the State Library of Iowa! Tier 3 is the highest level of accreditation, recognizing libraries that meet rigorous standards for governance, collections, services, technology, planning, and community support. For a library our size, achieving and maintaining Tier 3 status is something we're especially proud of!

While accreditation happens behind the scenes, it reflects our commitment to providing excellent service, being good stewards of public resources, and continuing to grow with our community.
Thank you to our staff, board, city leaders, and patrons for helping make this possible. We're proud to serve you!
