The Washington High School Class of 1991 recently celebrated their reunion by doing more than reminiscing. Classmates came together to invest in the future of Washington Community Schools through their newly established WHS Class of '91 Hatchet Legacy Fund, held at Our Community Foundation.

During the reunion, classmates challenged one another to contribute to the fund, demonstrating their continued pride in their alma mater and commitment to future generations of Hatchets.

The designated endowment fund will provide ongoing financial support for educational and enrichment programs throughout Washington Community Schools, creating a lasting resource for students and educators.

Adding to the celebration, a generous class member offered a matching gift opportunity that resulted in a $500 contribution to the Washington Primary School Playground Project Fund.

“The Class of 1991 has found a meaningful way to honor their school memories while investing in future generations,” said Chris Jarrett, Executive Director of Our Community Foundation. “Inspired by the WHS Class of 1971 Legacy Fund, these classmates have embraced the opportunity to give back to the school and community that helped shape their lives.”

Jarrett added, “The beauty of an endowed fund is that its impact extends far beyond a single gift or reunion. Every contribution helps build a permanent resource that will continue supporting educational opportunities for years to come.”

Our Community Foundation welcomes other graduating classes, alumni, and community members interested in establishing funds to support causes and organizations meaningful to them. Endowed giving provides an opportunity to create lasting impact while honoring the people and places that have shaped their lives.

We’re thrilled to announce Giving Tuesday Daviess County 2026!

As the holiday season approaches, Black Friday and Cyber Monday will once again draw plenty of attention. But the Tuesday that follows offers a different way to mark the season, by giving back.

Giving Tuesday takes place this year on Tuesday, December 1, and Our Community Foundation will once again host Giving Tuesday Daviess County, a 24-hour event dedicated to raising financial support for local charitable organizations.

This year’s event carries special significance for the Foundation. It marks the fifth year of Giving Tuesday Daviess County as well as the fifth anniversary of Our Community Foundation.

“It’s exciting to celebrate five years of Giving Tuesday Daviess County along with Our Community Foundation’s fifth anniversary,” said Chris Jarrett, Executive Director of Our Community Foundation. “Both milestones reflect the generosity of people who care deeply about this community. We hope everyone will join us on December 1 by making a gift to a local organization or charitable fund that is meaningful to them.”

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that celebrates generosity and encourages people to support the causes and organizations they care about. In the United States, the annual event takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, providing an opportunity amid the busy holiday shopping season to focus on giving back.
To make it easy to participate, Our Community Foundation will again provide an online giving platform at localforever.org at no cost to participating nonprofits. Donors can use the site to make gifts directly to the participating organizations of their choice or to any charitable fund held at the Foundation.

“Our Community Foundation funds support a wide range of local causes, organizations, and programs,” Jarrett added. “Gifts made to those funds on December 1 will also be included in our Giving Tuesday totals.”

Community partners will once again add to the excitement by providing special awards for participating organizations:
• Washington Times Herald will recognize the organization with the most donors within the 47501 zip code.
• Shake Broadcasting will present an award to the organization with the greatest number of donors overall.
• The Odon Journal will recognize the organization with the most donors from outside the 47501 zip code.

Giving Tuesday Daviess County begins at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, and continues for 24 hours. Donations can be made online at localforever.org, with results to be announced following the event.

Local charitable organizations interested in participating should contact Chris Jarrett at [email protected] no later than Friday, October 30.
