We're the movement to reforest America, from cities to large, rural landscapes. Our roots run deep. We have worked longer than any national nonprofit conservation organization in the United States to protect and restore the country’s forests. Since our founding in 1875, we have been the pathfinders for the forest conservation movement. In the early 1900s, for example, we rallied forest advocates t

o champion creation of the U.S. Forest Service. In 2018, we won a decade-long campaign persuading Congress to provide stable funding for preventing and fighting forest fires. Now we are focused on building a movement to reforest America, from cities to large, rural landscapes. We all rely on forests in order to survive and thrive, given the power they have to filter our air and water, provide jobs, mitigate climate change and more. But our forests are being degraded and destroyed at a rapid pace and large scale. If we take care of our forests, they will take care of us.

For 150 years, American Forests has helped shape the future of forests in the United States from conserving wild landscapes to advancing Tree Equity in cities nationwide.

Benita Hussain, Chief Program Officer of Tree Equity at American Forests, speaks to why this work matters. Tree Equity is about equal access to urban trees and the health, safety, and climate benefits they provide for all people.

As we close out the year, your support helps carry this legacy forward by strengthening forests, protecting communities, and advancing Tree Equity for the challenges ahead.

Stand with us as we enter our next century of impact.

Forests are home to 80% of land-based wildlife. Protecting forests means we're protecting them.

The health of wildlife and the health of forests are intrinsically linked: When wildlife species thrive, they help support the biodiversity of the overall forest ecosystem, which allows forests to thrive and provide the most benefits for people.

You can help us protect the ones we share this planet with.
