Tom Howley returns as Powell, Keegan, and others in Bell Wringer! Tom has spent the last 40+ years in the DMV's (and sometimes Baltimore's) theater community since moving here from Michigan in '84 to attend The Catholic University of America's MFA Acting Program (Class of '87!). Performance exploits have seen him in a broad range of venues over the years, ranging from area middle schools, to PuppetCo, to a year of touring with The National Players, to a loooooooong and happy period ensconced in the area's much-missed Dinner Theater community, to the vibrant local Community Theater scene, to small, scrappy, brilliant companies like Nu Sass, Theatre Prometheus, Pinky Swear, and the late Brave Spirits, and even to occasional forays onto mainstream stages, including Folger Theatre, Theater J, The Kennedy Center, and the National Theater.
Tom loves acting. If you ask him what his favorite role of all time is, he will likely respond with whatever the most recent one was, or the one that he's currently rehearsing. Right now that would be Constant Coqueline in Silver Spring Stage's BERNHARDT-HAMLET...an absolute gem of a supporting track. Other favorites have been William Lane in Nu Sass' TWIGS & BONE (Helen Hayes nomination); George Hay in Rockville Little Theatre's MOON OVER BUFFALO (WATCH Award nomination); Samuel Byck in Laurel Mill Playhouse's ASSASSINS (WATCH Award); Shlemiel in SHLEMIEL THE FIRST (Theater J); and truly, any time he's had the opportunity to play Ebenezer Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL. But-- the list is wicked-long. Ya can't limit how many of your children you love, after all.
Tom has also had a long, accidental career on the other side of the footlights as a theatrical Technical Director. He's been the TD at Theater J since August of 2004 (Moses may still have been on the Board of Directors at the time...), building every set seen on the Goldman stage in that span. For roughly 10 years before that, he was the TD at the lovely West End Dinner Theater in Alexandria, until it succumbed to changing markets for that type of entertainment. Ohhhh he misses the lavish employee meals, though...

Karen Lange is Bell Wringer's co-writer, producer, and titular Bell Witch! Karen Lange is the co-Founding Artistic Director of Pinky Swear Productions. She has been in the DC theatre community for over 20 years, performing in plays, musicals, improv, and more. She is also a playwright/deviser and songwriter. Two plays she co-wrote won multiple awards. Karen is also a co-founder of District Fringe, the area's newest festival.

Karen has performed in numerous plays around the region. Some companies she has appeared with: Theater Alliance, Solas Nua, Rorschach Theatre Company, Avant Bard, Brave Spirits, Nu Sass, Pallas Theatre Company, Washington Improv Theater, The Welders, and Source Festival.

Karen believes, first and foremost, in the power of art to move people while also entertaining them. She believes in promoting and supporting women in the arts, both in and outside of her company. She dedicates this show to the memory of her best friend and co-founder of Pinky Swear, Allyson Harkey. I'm keeping the promise for you, A.

Introducing the Director of Bell Wringer! Jen Jacobs (she/her) is a multi-faceted theatre artist currently based in Washington DC. She is thrilled to be directing this newly realized production of Bell Wringer after having been Associate Director for Pinky Swear’s production of Over Her Dead Body at both Capital Fringe and Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2024.
