Pinky Swear Productions

Pinky Swear Productions Washington DC's most innovative, woman-driven theatre company. Donate? https://pinkyswear.democracyengine.com/pinkyswear Donate!

Pinky Swear is a theatre company that produces plays with bold, strong, engaging female characters. We are interested in new stories and new storytellers. Our productions are a little funny, a little dark, and a lot entertaining. We hire women—both artists and technicians—whenever possible. We believe in a world where all theatre artists can make a living and do our best to bring that world to fruition. Ultimately, we like plays where people talk to each other and things happen.

Today, we're spotlighting our director! Karen Lange is the co-Founding Artistic Director of Pinky Swear Productions. She has been in the DC theatre community for over 20 years, performing in plays, musicals, improv, and more. She is also a playwright/deviser and songwriter. Two plays she co-wrote won multiple awards. Now, she's making her first foray into directing! Karen is also a co-founder of District Fringe, the area's newest festival.

In addition to Pinky Swear and Nu Sass, Karen has performed at Theater Alliance, Rorschach Theater, Solas Nua, Avant Bard, Creative Cauldron, Brave Spirits, The Welders, and many more. She was a founding cast member of WIT’s iMusical, which she performed in for ten years.

She is a graduate of Studio Conservatory and has trained with Shakespeare & Co. She also taught at Studio Conservatory’s youth program, WIT, and Creative Kids.

Karen believes, first and foremost, in the power of art to move people while also entertaining them. She believes in promoting and supporting women in the arts, both in and outside of her company. She also believes in giving new production companies opportunities to produce shows in a cost-effective way. She dedicates this show to the memory of her best friend and co-founder of Pinky Swear, Allyson Harkey. I'm keeping the promise for you, A.
