AI is opening new doors for conservation—helping protect wildlife and support local economies.

From reducing bycatch in commercial fisheries to tracking whales and reef fish in real time, NFWF-supported projects are showing how AI can deliver real benefits on land and at sea.

Virtual fencing is reshaping grazing: it uses virtual boundaries to move cattle multiple times a day, reduce labor, keep herds out of streams and wetlands, and support adaptive grazing that boosts soil health.

With a grant awarded from the Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative, Mizzou will work with nearly 200 ranches across Missouri and Nebraska to expand virtual fencing, increase use of native forages, restore grasslands and protect sensitive riparian habitats.

Healthier grasslands mean more biodiversity, cleaner water and more resilient ranching operations.

Healthy forests are the foundation of a thriving ecosystem. 🌿

Today is , and we're incredibly proud of the work the Forestland Stewards Partnership is doing alongside International Paper to restore critical forest habitats across the U.S. South. Together, we’ve funded projects to plant nearly 90 million (!) seedlings since 2013, benefiting species like the red-cockaded woodpecker or gopher tortoise and strengthening local communities.

Grassland bird populations have been declining for decades, largely due to the loss of suitable habitat. Empowering private landowners to restore and manage habitat on the lands they steward is one of the best ways to improve outcomes for grassland birds.

That’s why American Bird Conservancy is working with ranchers across the Great Plains to expand science-based grazing and grassland management that can strengthen bird habitat, native vegetation, rangeland health and rural livelihoods. This effort will implement conservation practices across more than 150,000 acres, with an aim to advance soil health, water resilience and resilient ranching communities.

You and the crew this weekend ✌️

It's , and appreciate them we do! Bats play vital roles in our ecosystems. They disperse seeds, pollinate plants and control insect populations. It's estimated that the pesticide services of bats are worth more than $1 billion annually to the U.S. corn industry alone, and more than $3.7 billion annually to all agricultural production.

NFWF's Bats for the Future Fund provides grant funding to promote the survival and recovery of bat populations and species. Learn more >> https://vist.ly/4yu5v

Regenerative grazing can improve soil health and water retention, making grazing lands more resilient to drought and flooding. It also provides additional benefits such as increased biodiversity and enhanced grassland productivity.

With a new grant from the Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative, American Farmland Trust is supporting a producer-led effort to expand regenerative grazing across the Southern Great Plains, Pacific Northwest and Southeast, helping strengthen the resilience of hundreds of ranches and 300,000 acres of grazing lands.

This project provides land stewards with peer mentorship, region-specific technical assistance and hands-on training to adopt practices that can improve soil health, increase water retention, enhance wildlife habitat and boost ranch profitability.

Deep in Michigan’s rugged Upper Peninsula, 73,000 acres (!) of pristine working forests, wetlands and coldwater streams are now protected forever. 🌲🦅 💪

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Michigamme Highlands project secures critical habitats for iconic species like moose, pine marten and the Northern long-eared bat. It also protects 4,800 acres of vital deer wintering complexes and miles of streams for coaster brook trout and other native species. An angler’s delight!

NFWF is proud to have supported this monumental effort through our Acres for America program, in collaboration with Walmart and the Life Time Foundation.

Ms. Eleanor Jordan’s family estate in Jackson County, Mississippi, is a haven for many rare and magnificent species, from sandhill cranes to carnivorous plants.

Now, through a U.S. Department of Agriculture.NRCS easement, her land is being restored to protect 14 federally endangered species and provide a crucial wildlife corridor.

🎥 Watch to see how NFWF and U.S. Department of Agriculture.NRCS are building a more resilient future for wildlife and communities in the Gulf states.

Grassland birds are declining faster than any other bird group in North America. Most of these species—whose populations have dropped by more than 40 percent over the last 50 years—depend on privately owned grasslands.

With support from the Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative, National Audubon Society will expand science-based grassland conservation across the Central Grasslands. Over the next three years, more than 30 ranches, covering 500,000 acres, will voluntarily adopt bird-friendly, regenerative grazing practices and receive support through technical and financial. This work aims to enhance habitat diversity, soil health, water conservation and track results using Audubon’s Bird Friendliness Index to demonstrate positive trends for grassland birds and biodiversity.
