The Great Lakes hold 20% of the world’s freshwater—but the outdated Line 5 hazardous liquid pipeline puts these irreplaceable waters at risk. ☣️

A recent catastrophic spill makes clear what we’ve known for years: it’s time to shut down the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline and demand that leaders stand up for clean water, Tribal sovereignty, and the communities that depend on the Great Lakes.

Many thanks to Joe Bates, Tribal Elder for the Bad River Band, who captured the moment Line 5 ruptured, releasing 1.3 million gallons of natural gas liquids after a failure at Enbridge’s construction site.

🚨Last week, over 1 million gallons of highly toxic natural gas liquids leaked in Iron County, threatening Wisconsin’s public health and environment. 🛢️

Trumpeter swans were brought back from total extirpation in Northern Wisconsin where they have since been thriving. 🦢 But now, they face more risks from the Line 5 oil pipeline.

Some of America’s wildest places are at a crossroads. 🌲🚗

For 25 years, the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule has provided protections for millions of acres of some of the nation’s most intact national forest lands. 🚧

Now, the Dept of Agriculture has proposed repealing it. 🚨

These aren’t just acres on a map. These landscapes provide critical wildlife habitat, clean water, opportunities for hunting and fishing, and places of deep cultural importance to Indigenous communities. 🗺️

ROADLESS is a new video series exploring these landscapes through the perspectives of the people who know them best. They’ve spent years working on them, exploring them, studying them, and now fighting for them. 🏞️

Thank you to our more than 11,000 activists who commented to save vital wetland habitat for ducklings! 🦆

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that, at least for now, it is maintaining its current science-based standards for protecting Prairie Pothole wetland easements, to safeguard the region where more than half of all ducks in America are born. 👏

There are thousands of oil and gas wells scattered across lands where endangered black-footed ferrets and other species make their homes that are leaking methane, contaminating groundwater, and degrading habitat. 🛢️

The Department of the Interior is proposing to reduce the minimum financial commitment from oil and gas companies to ensure drilling sites are cleaned up when operations end.

Good news! Missourians voted to pass Amendment 1, renewing the state's Parks, Soils and Water tax on Tuesday. 🐦🌳

The 0.1% sales tax allows people to visit any state park or historic park free of charge. Funding from the sales tax also supports soil and water conservation projects on farmlands and woodlands throughout Missouri.

The Prairie Pothole Region in the upper Midwest produces more than half of the continent's migratory waterfowl, but the wetlands these birds depend on are now at risk. 🦆

For decades, voluntary conservation easements have protected these habitats while allowing farmers and ranchers to continue working the land, thanks in part to billions of dollars invested by hunters and conservationists. Weakening those protections could put millions of acres of critical breeding habitat at risk. 📉

Please tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to keep protections in place. 🚨
