Sixty-three years ago today, Medgar Evers returned home to his family only to be met with an assassin's bullet before he could even reach his front door.

The 37-year old father of three, husband, and NAACP leader's life and voice were stolen from us in a senseless act of racial violence.

Today, we honor his courage, his sacrifice, and his unwavering dedication to the fight for justice, equity, and voting rights.

His legacy lives on in each of us. May the movement continue to move forward in his memory.

The NAACP today announced the launch of the NAACP Advancement List, a new national recognition initiative designed to celebrate and elevate the extraordinary accomplishments of Black leaders, innovators, creators, and change agents across every industry.

From business and technology to entertainment, education, healthcare, public service, advocacy, and beyond, the NAACP Advancement List will honor individuals whose work is driving meaningful progress for Black communities and shaping the future of America.

🏳️‍🌈 This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community’s resilience, brilliance, and impact. We honor those who paved the way, those continuing the fight for equality today, and those finding the courage to live authentically every day.

At the NAACP DC Branch, we believe that the fight for civil rights includes the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Our movements are strongest when everyone is seen, valued, and empowered to thrive.

As we celebrate love in all its forms, we also reaffirm our commitment to equity, visibility, and the freedom for every person to show up as their full self.
