Due to unforseen circumstances, see below the change to this event: Join LATAM@GW and LACS (Latin American Caribbean Studies Initiative) in exploring the successes and shortcomings of Colombia’s historic peace deal signed in 2016. Speakers will include Ambassador Peña Jaramillo and Dr. Gimena Sanchez-Garzoli

The Ambassador serving as High Commissioner for Peace at the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia from 1995 to 1998, has been deeply involved in the peace processes long before the peace deal, and offers a unique perspective on the last ten years.

Join LATAM@GW and LACS (Latin American Caribbean Studies Initiative) in exploring the successes and shortcomings of Colombia’s historic peace deal signed in 2016. Speakers will include Ambassador Peña Jaramillo and Dr. Elvira Maria Restrepo (GWU).

The Ambassador serving as High Commissioner for Peace at the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia from 1995 to 1998, has been deeply involved in the peace processes long before the peace deal, and offers a unique perspective on the last ten years.

Dr. Restrepo, having served as a special advisor to former President Manuel Santos the year the peace deal was signed (2016-2017), offers a different and complementary perspective on the process of reaching an agreement as well as the deal’s ability to withstand the test of time.

Join us for a rich conversation with an opportunity for Q&A. This event is open to the public, and an RSVP is required. Please make sure to bring a form of ID. Light refreshments will be provided.
