NFPRHA advances and elevates the importance of family planning in the nation’s health care system and promotes and supports the work of family planning providers and administrators, especially those in the safety net. Founded in 1971, NFPRHA is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) membership association dedicated to protecting and expanding access to affordable, high-quality, and culturally sensitive family planning and sexual health care services for all, regardless of income or insurance status. NFPRHA’s membership represents the broad spectrum of health care professionals providing subsidized care to low-income, under-insured, and uninsured patients in the states and territories – state and local health departments, hospitals, family planning councils, federally qualified health centers, Planned Parenthood affiliates, and other private non-profit agencies. On behalf of its diverse membership, NFPRHA is the preeminent national advocate for the family planning safety net sustained by Medicaid and the Title X (ten) family planning program and supports the ability of its members to provide their patients with the family planning education and care they need to make the best health care choices for themselves and their loved ones.

“These most recent awards are proof that the destructive path we said the administration would take is becoming a reality. Highly qualified, trusted family planning providers are at imminent risk of being pushed out of the program despite decades of success delivering Title X services.” - Clare Coleman, NFPRHA President & CEO

Fifty years ago today, Congress passed the Hyde Amendment, cutting off coverage of abortion for nearly everyone enrolled in Medicaid. Hyde has never been permanent law. Congress renews it every single year.

For 50 years the cost has fallen hardest on the people our members care for: patients on Medicaid, veterans and service members, federal workers and their families, and people with low or no incomes.

The EACH Act would end Hyde. Join us in telling Congress to pass the EACH Act. Sign the petition using the link in the comments.

Gloria Steinem spent more than fifty years fighting for a clear idea: people cannot achieve equality without the ability to decide their own futures, including whether and when to have children.

That premise built the family planning safety net our members serve every day. It remains contested nationwide, and her decades of work are a reminder that progress on this front has never been linear, and has never been finished by one generation alone.

We're grateful for what she built, and for the members who carry that work forward.

It was the fight for abortion rights that launched Gloria Steinem into feminism. The idea that women couldn’t reach equality without the ability to decide whether or when to have children was central to the feminist movement of the late 1960s, which Steinem came to embody until her death at age 92...

Yesterday, 23 states and two governors sued HHS over changes to the Title X funding requirements in Maryland federal court.

This is the third national challenge, after NFPRHA and the Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania filed in June and Planned Parenthood in July. The most recent challenge adds the claim that HHS imposed the conditions without the notice and comment the Administrative Procedure Act requires.

The revised funding announcement in July did not resolve the central problem: conditional eligibility based on alignment with the administration's positions. Applicants can be turned away at a threshold stage, before need, capacity, and patients served are ever weighed.

Title X was created to fund comprehensive family planning care for people who cannot otherwise afford it. That is what we're fighting for. NFPRHA's case continues.

A coalition of states sued the Trump administration Thursday to block changes to a family planning grant program that it alleges would strip federal funding from states and providers unless they al…

Todd Blanche was confirmed on Saturday, Aug. 8 as the nation's top law enforcement officer. The new attorney general's history signals a likely escalation in the administration's anti-abortion agenda.

"Blanche's commitment to work 'hand in hand with the FDA' to end abortion access adds to the alarm bells." Since Trump took office, NAF has tracked a 113% increase in death threats, threats of violence, and a significant rise in abortion center blockades.

More in this Op-ed from National Abortion Federation's President and CEO Brittany Fonteno:

Attorney General Blanche’s confirmation is an urgent reminder of why we need abortion care, writes Brittany Fonteno.
