Trixie is a 32-year-old stump-tailed macaque at the Born Free Primate Sanctuary. Her BFF is Fatima, also a stump-tailed macaque, and bananas are her favorite food. Trixie is very curious about her own reflection, often lip smacking at herself!

Today marks one year since Miri became a Born Free Primate Sanctuary resident. The now 2-year-old vervet monkey was abandoned outside of an animal rehabber's house. He was wearing a leash and crying out. Now, Miri loves to bounce around on climbing structures and play with his monkey friends. He's very goofy and a favorite of the elder monkeys in his troop.

Happy the elephant, who was held captive at the Bronx Zoo for almost half a century, has been euthanized due to deteriorating health, the zoo has reported. We are profoundly saddened to learn of her passing. Happy's life was defined by cruel capture from her wild home, an inadequate living environment that she endured for nearly 50 years, and two decades of complete solitude. This is no life for an elephant.

Happy and Patty – the other solitary housed elephant at the Bronx Zoo – have long been the subject of concern from animal welfare advocates. The miserable life and tragic death of Happy should serve as a wake-up call to the zoo to do what is right by Patty. Calls to move her to an accredited sanctuary must be heeded.
