At the CCLE XXVI summer conference, Dr. Ryan MacPherson will give a presentation titled, "Religious Free Exercise: A Contemporary Look at the First Amendment." Do people have a “natural right” to religious liberty? What should the government do when crimes are committed in the name of religion? Is the free exercise of religion “essential” to society in the COVID-era sense of that term? Can a Christian school preserve its religious free exercise while receiving state-funded tuition vouchers? What about government-endorsed accreditation agencies? Or teacher training programs for state licensure? These and other pressing questions will be addressed by exploring Supreme Court decisions, legal scholarship, and historical case studies.

At the CCLE XXVI summer conference, Kate Thoelke will give a presentation titled, "From Calling to Classroom: The Heart of Classical Lutheran Education & the Art of Growing Great Teachers." How do classical school leaders go through the hiring process to find qualified teachers to serve? What requirements and expectations should we look for? What is the responsibility and role of school leaders in this process? This presentation will give you insights into how ongoing training and development are utilized both off-campus and on-campus to ensure that our teachers, the greatest asset of our schools’ operations, beyond the saving grace of God we teach to our scholars, can be addressed to ensure that professionalism, expertise, and knowledge are maximized for the benefit of our schools.

At the CCLE XXVI conference this summer, Rev. Dr. Charles Schulz will be presenting on "Teaching the Church Fathers." The Lutheran Reformation claimed and demonstrated its continuity with the historic church catholic by appealing to the Church Fathers, those foundational teachers and writers of the first six centuries of the Christian era. A Classical Lutheran education will follow this “Wittenberg instinct” by engaging with the Fathers and including them in the discussions of history, theology, and even logic and rhetoric. This presentation will introduce teachers and parents to the key Fathers, offer various schemas of categorization, and introduce key texts for consideration. Given that the Fathers don’t always “sound Lutheran,” some interpretive guidelines will also be given, so that the Fathers might be read in their own context but also in way that guides us today.

The Scholasticus program at the CCLE Summer Conference offers students a rich and joyful experience—and at its heart is our youth choir, directed by Dr. Kurt von Kampen.

Young participants have the opportunity to lift their voices in song, learning and performing sacred music alongside fellow students from across the country. Under Dr. von Kampen’s skilled and thoughtful direction, the choir not only cultivates musical excellence but also deepens students’ appreciation for the beauty and richness of the Church’s hymnody.

Join us this summer as our Scholasticus students learn, sing, and contribute to the worship life of the conference in a meaningful and memorable way.
