Last Sunday, our Save a Girl beneficiaries were able to enjoy some relaxing time at Connexion Beach.

This therapeutic recreational outing allowed them to release some stress and unwind, in a positive group setting, ahead of their end-of-year exams!

This project is made possible thanks to our partners Child Mercy Sweden and Stichting Vluchteling.

From 11 to 16 May 2026, Panzi Foundation brought together healthcare providers from Panzi General Referral Hospital, Mulamba Hospital Centre and other partner health facilities at the Simulation Centre of the Université Évangélique en Afrique - UEA, with the aim of strengthening their skills in Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care.

Over six days, theory, mannequin-based simulations and experience sharing deepened knowledge of prenatal consultations, labour monitoring, neonatal resuscitation and obstetric haemorrhage management around one goal: strengthening concrete reflexes that save mothers and newborns.

This training is part of our ongoing work with Union européenne en République démocratique du Congo and Enabel en RD Congo.

Panzi’s team is made up of more than 104 nurses, each, dedicated to providing holistic care to survivors of sexual violence in DRC, and playing an essential role in their healing journey.

Their commitment to dignity, justice, and hope for every survivor knows no limits, even in the most difficult conditions.

In the operating room, on the ward, or during mobile missions, they combine skill with humanity. They stand beside patients through pain and healing, and play a critical role in upholding Panzi’s holistic care model.

On this international day dedicated to them, we say thank you for the long hours, for their courage, and for the humanity they show every day to all who are in need.

Last month, our team from the Panzi Clinic in Kinshasa deployed a mobile obstetric clinic in the Lonzo health area, part of the Binza Météo health zone, to care for women living in extreme hardship.

In just a few days, 380 pregnant women received ultrasounds, comprehensive prenatal care and psychosocial support, free of charge. The mission also helped identify and support 197 survivors of sexual violence with the dignity and confidentiality they deserve.

A deep conviction drove this mission: no woman should be denied care because she lives far away, lacks resources, or suffers in silence. Panzi Foundation continues to act to restore hope by reaching out to communities, listening to women, raising awareness on sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence.

Thanks to GiveDirectly for their support.

The ITM hall of Panzi General Reference Hospital came alive from 20 to 24 April 2026 with an essential training session on HIV care and family planning. Organized by Panzi Foundation in collaboration with Panzi Hospital, the session brought together health workers from several facilities in the health zone, all driven by the same goal: to strengthen the quality of care for the population.

Over five days, participants moved between theoretical presentations, interactive exchanges and practical discussions. Updating HIV protocols, contraceptive methods, compassionate communication, confidentiality, humanized care: themes that fueled debates and built skills.

Dr Aline Byabene stressed the importance of sharing newly acquired knowledge, while Dr Sylvie Mwambali highlighted the need to break down socio-cultural barriers. This session was made possible thanks to Enabel.

“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed.”

This excerpt from the preamble of the Constitution of UNESCO serves as a compass. At Panzi Foundation, the values of peace are at the core of our mission. That is why, beyond our fieldwork providing holistic care, we open our doors to younger generations through our transformative programming.

Every month, we welcome them to speak with them and show how violence undermines the highest values of our shared humanity, beginning with human dignity. We talk to them about our work, the lives we support, and the values that guide us.

Because building the defenses of peace also means shaping consciences from an early age.

A WEEK OF SURGICAL TRAINING ENDS AT THE PANZI CLINIC IN KINSHASA

This week at Panzi's One Stop Center in Kinshasa, our teams worked together to respond to the needs of several women. On May 1st, the joint mission between Panzi Kinshasa Clinic and AFYA Genève came to a positive and concrete conclusion, marked by consultations, successful surgeries, strengthened skills, and five days of surgical companionship.

Led by Professor Frédéric Ris and his team, physicians and surgeons from Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi, Guinea Conakry, Geneva, and Panzi Hospital combined their expertise to treat the most severe consequences of difficult childbirth: recto-vaginal fistulas, severe a**l sphincter tears, and f***l incontinence.

This mission was designed above all as a skills transfer: 6 Congolese surgeons and 4 practitioners from other African countries underwent intensive training in the repair of complex posterior perineal lesions.

What remains from this week is not only women whose lives have been repaired. It is also strengthened skills, lasting collaborations among peers, and the conviction that reconstructive surgery moves forward more quickly when it is shared among practitioners united by a common purpose: restoring dignity and hope to women who have been left in the shadows for far too long.

In eastern DRC, war dictates daily life. Banks remain closed, the economy is at a standstill, and vulnerable families are left to fend for themselves. It is in this fragile context that, in February 2026, Fondation Panzi provided cash support to 20 Mutual Solidarity Groups (MUSOs) USD 1,650 per group, to meet their business goals.

At the heart of Panzi's 30CD25 project, is the empowerment of survivors of sexual violence and other vulnerable women.

From 19 to 25 April 2026, a team from our socio-economic reintegration pillar and the MEAL pool led a monitoring and evaluation trip to Lubona and Kaziba to assess the progress of the activities since their launch, listening to beneficiaries and their experiences while running the project.

The findings were more than encouraging: income-generating activities, small trade, pig farming, market gardening are already up and running and making a difference for the 554 members spread across 20 MUSOs in Bukavu, Kaziba, Lubona and Bwegera.

Families expressed their gratitude to Dr. Denis Mukwege whose global advocacy continues to carry an impact as large as this funding may have, amidst adversity.

Thanks to our partner Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise for their support.

This Monday, April 27, a major surgical and training mission began at the Panzi Clinic in Kinshasa. From the very first day, doctors from eastern DRC, sent by Dr. Denis Mukwege from Panzi General Hospital, Bulenga Hospital and Kyeshero Hospital, joined colleagues from AFYA programmes in other African countries.

The Swiss Ambassador to the DRC also took part in the launch, during which survivors, including women displaced by war, made their plea to the Swiss television, calling for the return of peace so that these medical experts can also go and treat women in the East.

For five days, from 27 April to 1 May 2026, Panzi's One Stop Center, in partnership with AFYA Geneva, which has also deployed its international experts to strengthen their skills, will join forces to care for women suffering from the invisible after-effects of difficult childbirths : recto-vaginal fistulas, severe a**l sphincter tears and a**l incontinence.

Thank you to the Swiss Embassy in the DRC for its support.

"When you look at a newborn child, it is as if everything stops, and we must reflect on the world we want them to grow up in." — Dr. Denis Mukwege

This World Malaria Day, let those words land.

According to World Health Organization, Africa accounted for 95% of all malaria cases and deaths globally in 2024. 76% of those deaths are children under 5. The burden is not spread evenly: more than half of all malaria deaths in Africa are concentrated in just three countries: Nigeria (31.9%), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (11.7%), and Niger (6.1%).

These are not statistics, they are communities under siege, health systems at their limits, and mothers who never brought their child home.

Every insecticide-treated net not distributed, every diagnosis delayed, every treatment out of reach has consequences. A child somewhere is paying for them right now.

The world we want for every newborn exists. But it requires us to act now, urgently, together towards:
✅ funding prevention;
✅ demanding universal access to treatment;
✅ raising your voice today.
