Due to Russian aggression against Ukraine in late February of 2014, the Eastern European region became a turbulent zone in response the Russian military threat. The current crisis may change not only the European political landscape but also may lead further destabilization with a number of victims of this undeclared war. As a result more than 500 million of Europeans now are potentially jeopardi
zed by the Russian military machine along with $87 billion of annual expenses. We are concerned that the main reason of this conflict in Ukraine is not only Mr. Putin’s personal ambition to restore borders of the Soviet empire, but also a misunderstanding between different sides of the conflict which could cause even more damage and create victims of thousands of innocent people. Because Russian propaganda is very strong in Europe, the conflict may spread far away from Ukrainian borders. Meanwhile the Russian relationship with key European countries remains tense. The main role of the “Center for Eastern European Perspectives” is to become a mediator between European and American society by conducting different events and bringing together outstanding scholars, politicians, businessmen, journalists and other experts who have a voice in their country. As a result Ukrainians, Polish, Georgians, Moldovans and other nations have to understand more clearly the US policy on this region by having access to all the information they need for better understanding the situation. Via open dialogs, conferences, publications and common projects, the“Center for Eastern European Perspectives” (C4EEP) will bring together people with different backgrounds, views, and ideas to find compromises on security, energy, and environmental cooperation as well as other important issues. We are deeply concerned for the necessity of deeper, comprehensive and more productive cooperation between those countries for maintaining stability and peace in the region.
