Luis Manuel Aviles left his house in Key West on Saturday to take his car to the mechanic. Border Patrol arrested him. His son Joshua was on the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East, month nine at sea, twelve-hour shifts, more than 250 days without a break.

Aviles is 48. Nineteen years in this country. A handyman. His wife says he holds a work permit. He is in ICE custody while the government moves to deport him.

The Department of Homeland Security answered on Sunday. Having a family member in the military is not a free pass to violate our nation's laws.

Here is what that sentence replaced. Military parole-in-place was created under George W. Bush in 2007 and codified under Barack Obama. It let the parents, spouses and children of American service members get legal status without leaving the country. It held for eighteen years under both parties. In April 2025 the administration scrapped it. Military recruiters are still promoting it.

The Associated Press documented at least 52 parents and spouses of active-duty troops detained since January 2025. Six deported. One self-deported. Eight still in custody. The federal government does not track any of it, so Jack Brook, Safiyah Riddle and Aaron Kessler built the count out of thousands of court records and verified it family by family.

The Pentagon told Congress in December that it has never analyzed what this does to readiness or morale. On August 6 the President created a Military Spouse Commission and appointed the Defense Secretary's wife to chair it.

A sitting American Middle East envoy raised Gulf money and sold Albania a $4.6 billion beach resort.

Jared Kushner announced the project in 2024 through Affinity Partners, the firm that manages billions from Saudi, Qatari, and Emirati backers. He holds that role while also serving as the administration's Middle East envoy, raising money from Gulf governments while negotiating American policy toward them.

On March 19, 2026, Representative Robert Garcia and Senator Ron Wyden opened an investigation into that conflict. Wyden said the guy is literally on the payroll of the Saudi government and trying to take even more of their money while simultaneously hijacking US foreign policy.

Albania is not waiting for Washington. Its independent anti-corruption prosecutors are investigating allegedly forged deeds on the resort land, are examining a Miami-based businessman over the property titles, and have frozen the bank accounts of Albania Land Development, the company that bought the Zvernec beachfront.

Three months of protest, a live corruption investigation, and an asset freeze, and the prime minister says the project goes ahead anyway. Albania is investigating it. America is hosting it.

Three months of protest, in a country of under three million people, over one American family's beach resort.

It started in late May in the Albanian village of Zvernec, when residents objected to preparatory works for a luxury development and private security clashed with them over beach access. By July 5, the protests had run 35 consecutive nights. The American Prospect called it the largest mobilization in Albania since the fall of communism.

The resort is worth roughly $4.6 billion, sited on Sazan Island and about five miles of coastline beside a protected lagoon that holds about 70 endangered species, including the greater flamingos that gave the movement its name. Jared Kushner announced it in 2024 through Affinity Partners.

Prime Minister Edi Rama called the protests a hybrid war and refused to resign. The state used tear gas, water cannons, and arrests. Protesters toppled a bust of him in Tirana.

In the same window, a 927-page disclosure put the American president's 2025 income at roughly $2.2 billion. Nobody here filled a boulevard.

That is the gap between the Antwerp diamond sector handing the president a jeweled gold ring and his administration exempting European natural diamonds from tariffs.

The ring is eighteen karat gold, set with 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, six rubies, and two diamond letter T's.

Senators Warren and Blumenthal have asked the Belgian diamond giants in writing whether it was a cartoonish bribe to obtain tariff exemptions.

Understand what an exemption is worth. It is not a courtesy. It is a permanent change in the cost of selling into the largest consumer market on earth. Every foreign industry watching this learns that the formal process is optional and that the faster channel accepts deliveries.

That is how a trade policy stops being national policy and becomes a price list.

The Antwerp diamond sector presented the president of the United States with an eighteen karat gold ring set with 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, six rubies, and two letter T's made of diamonds.

Someone decided 321 was the right number. Someone specified the letter T, twice. This was commissioned, not picked off a shelf.

Weeks later the administration exempted European natural diamonds from tariffs.

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal have written to the Belgian diamond giants asking whether the ring was, in their own words, a cartoonish bribe to obtain tariff exemptions.

Ordinary corruption is careful. It uses consultants, shell companies and delay. This was a jeweled object handed to a head of state weeks before his government moved the tariff line in the giver's favor.

Fewer than 20 Ukrainian drone operators against 3,500 American soldiers, and the Americans lost.

At exercise Combined Resolve 26 in Hohenfels, Germany, this spring, Ukraine's 412th Nemesis drone unit wiped out the US 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team so fast that exercise judges had to keep respawning destroyed vehicles to keep the drill running. By the end, the Ukrainians switched to the American side to teach our soldiers how to survive.

Eight months earlier, Ukraine had offered the United States a half share of that exact drone production line, with Washington funding the other half and Kyiv spending the proceeds on American weapons. Trump's people passed. In March, the president said that we know more about drones than anybody.

That is the tariff rate a preliminary Commerce Department ruling would impose on Korea Aluminum's exports to the United States. At that level a tariff is not a tax. It is a wall.

Korea Aluminum's parent, South Korea's Base Group, paid a Trump family business two million dollars in 2025, booked as a nonrefundable development fee for a golf course that has never been announced.

On August 6 Senators Warren, Blumenthal and Kim opened an inquiry asking whether the payment was meant to influence Commerce Department proceedings or otherwise secure lucrative tariff exemptions. Three sitting senators are asking, in writing, whether a foreign conglomerate tried to buy relief from a federal trade ruling through the president's family.

When the same man controls the tariff schedule and the family ledger, every exporter on earth learns which door to knock on.

Two million dollars for a golf course that has never been announced.

South Korea's Base Group paid a Trump family business two million dollars in 2025. The payment was booked as a nonrefundable development fee. There is no announced site, no announced opening, and no announced course. Nonrefundable means the buyer agreed in advance not to ask for the money back if nothing is ever built.

Base Group's Keumyang arm already distributes Trump Winery wine, so the two sides knew each other. And Base Group's affiliate, Korea Aluminum, is facing a preliminary Commerce Department ruling that would push tariffs on its exports to 105.8 percent.

On August 6 Senators Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal and Andy Kim opened an inquiry, asking whether the payment was meant to influence Commerce Department proceedings or otherwise secure lucrative tariff exemptions.

Sixty million dollars. An 8,100 square kilometer Arctic basin. And a cap table that reads like a receipt book.

Ken Griffin, the Citadel founder, gave one million dollars to Trump's 2025 inaugural committee and took a 9.3 percent stake in the Greenland drilling project in May. Carol Craig, who runs Sidus Space and works on the Golden Dome program, joined the board this summer. Chairman Larry Swets has prior ventures with Paolo Tiramani, who says he gave one million dollars to the White House ballroom project. Phil McGraw, who sits on Trump's Religious Liberty Commission, is fronting a six-part documentary from the drill site on his own network.

The territory underneath all of it is one this president has spent eighteen months threatening to annex, over the stated objection of the people who live there.

America's allies are not spoils to hand out to billionaire boosters.

The permit expired in December. The drilling rig showed up in Greenland anyway.

Greenland Energy, a Texas company that wrote Trump's inaugural committee a one million dollar check, moved drilling equipment to Nerlerit Inaat on Greenland's east coast on an approval that lapsed last year. On July 30 the Danish government issued a formal warning. On August 6 the company told its investors that regulatory talks were constructive. On August 12 Greenland's government ruled out the winter drilling season entirely.

Greenland's public broadcaster KNR listed the steps the project skipped. A project description, a thirty-five day hearing, environmental and social impact assessments, an eight-week hearing on those, a community benefit agreement, and only then a drilling authorization. This project has completed one of eleven.

Asked what the company had told his community, a hunter in Ittoqqortoormiit named Erling Madsen said, we hear nothing from them.

Danish troops fought and died beside Americans in Helmand. Eighty years of that, traded for a donor's drilling season.
