IT'S BACK! Join us on June 2 for an encore session of our Kenya Care & Policy Learning Series.

With special guest Dr. Muigai Wainaina (THE NATIONAL TREASURY KENYA), we'll explore how Kenya’s zero-based budgeting reforms can strengthen planning and resource allocation for care systems, including childcare, disability care, elder care, and social protection.

The session is especially relevant for planners, economists, budget officers, public finance practitioners, development partners, and advocates interested in care financing and budget reforms.

An engaged group of PRB supporters joined us this morning for Lemonade & the Latest, our second in a series of donor-exclusive conversations.

Our donors come from all walks of life — different fields, different vantage points, different reasons for caring about this work. Getting to hear from them, and share what's ahead at PRB, is something we don't take for granted. Glad to be building a community around a shared belief in the power of a demographic lens. 🍋

Your long-weekend read: Are Americans "underbabied"? 🍼

This month, Dr. Mehmet Oz introduced a new demographic buzzword into the lexicon. PRB's Kaitlyn Patierno and Alison Gemmill () assess whether his claim has merit.

Earlier this month, Dr. Mehmet Oz introduced a new demographic buzzword into the public conversation. Is there any truth to this concern?

Declining fertility is one of the most consequential demographic shifts of our time, and it raises real questions about our future.

But PRB's President & CEO Jennifer Sciubba joined BBC's Katty Kay to push the conversation further: How do we redefine success and well-being in a world where populations aren't infinitely growing?

The milestones are real. More opportunities for women in the workforce. Greater autonomy. Genuine progress. But somewhere along the way, we skipped past celebrating those wins and jumped straight to fear.

As our CEO put it: "We need new vocabulary around this."

At PRB, we believe data should open conversations, not close them. Follow along as we work to build that new vocabulary together. (And watch the much-needed discussion, below. 👇)

"Infertility is solely a women's issue." "Contraception causes infertility." "Investing in fertility treatments will reverse declining birth rates."

There is a lot of confusion about infertility and fertility decline—but the evidence tells a different story.

This Mother's Day, research reminds us that the bond between moms and their adult children is rarely a straight line—and growing up doesn't always mean growing apart. 💙

A new study led by Mieke Beth Thomeer at the University of Alabama at Birmingham explored how mother-child relationships evolve across the 20s, and the findings are more nuanced than you might expect. Her team identified six distinct patterns, from consistently close to gradual shifts in contact, emotional distance, and even reconnection.

Some key findings:
🩵 About 1 in 3 young adults maintain consistently high contact AND emotional closeness with their moms throughout their 20s.
💙 Closeness and frequency of contact don't always move together—you can feel deeply connected to your mom even if you're not talking every day.
🩵 Race and gender shape these patterns: Black women are more likely to maintain stable, close ties, while white men are more likely to experience persistent distance or instability.

These insights come from longitudinal data, the kind of long-term research that makes it possible to see how family relationships unfold over time.

Two years ago, Jennifer Sciubba stepped into the role of President and CEO at PRB. One year ago, we were impressed. Today, we're inspired.

Year two has shown us a leader who doesn't just navigate uncertainty, she leans into it. Jennifer has grown bolder in her vision and even more committed to the people and mission at the heart of everything we do.

She's also been busy introducing PRB to the world. Through a packed schedule and no shortage of media appearances, Jennifer has brought new and broader audiences into the PRB fold—a hefty charge for a 96-year-old organization—and she's done it with the same warmth and energy she brings to everything she does. (Oh, and she published a new book!)

In a landscape that keeps shifting, she's shown us what steady, principled, and tireless leadership looks like. And PRB is stronger for it.

Congratulations on two years, Jennifer—we can't wait to see what you do next.
