Robert T. Freeman Dental Society

The Robert T. Freeman Dental Society is the Washington, DC component of the National Dental Association. Freeman was accepted as one of a class of sixteen.

It was conceived during the turn of the twentieth century when blacks were not admitted to local white dental associations. In 1867 when Harvard Dental School was founded, Robert T. On March 10, 1869 he became the first Black American to receive a Doctorate Degree in Dentistry. Dr. Freeman began practicing dentistry upon immediate return to his hometown of Washington, D.C. er was abruptly terminated when he died four years later. On November 14, 1900, the Washington Society of Colored Dentists was formed and in 1907 the name was changed to honor Dr. Robert T. Freeman.
