We represent more than 5,000 nonprofit aging services providers and other mission-minded organizations that touch millions of lives every day. Alongside our members and 38 state partners, we use applied research, advocacy, education, and community-building to make America a better place to grow old. Our membership, which now includes the home-based care providers of the Visiting Nurse Associations of America, encompasses the continuum of services for people as they age, including those with disabilities. Over two days in September, a fly-in for LeadingAge national’s Immigration Advancement Project yielded nearly 40 meetings with congressional offices for LeadingAge members and state partners from Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, and Pennsylvania.

By sharing their stories, experiences, and on-the-ground knowledge, members helped policymakers understand how federal immigration policies impact workforce challenges, in turn affecting older adults’ access to care and services.

A two-day fly in hosted by LeadingAge national, as part of our Immigration Advancement Project, brought over 20 provider members and state partners to the nation’s capitol over September 22 and 23. During the nearly 40 meetings informing policymakers of federal immigration policy’s impact on the aging services workforce and access to care for older adults, our message was clear. Immigration policy is workforce policy; without reforms, access to care for older Americans is at stake.
