Farmworker children as young as 12 can work 10 to 12 hours a day in extreme heat, and in some states, 7 days a week without a break. No other industry allows that.

NCL applauds Senator Ben Ray Luján for reintroducing the CARE Act, which would bring child farmworkers’ age and hour protections in line with every other industry, strengthen protections against pesticide exposure, and raise penalties for child labor violations.

"Federal tracking from the FBI and FTC shows that crypto kiosks specifically accounted for nearly $390 million in reported losses nationally and $11.9 million in Michigan alone."

Today, NCL's John Breyault testified before the Michigan Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance, and Consumer Protection in support of S​B 980, the Cryptocurrency Kiosk Fraud Prevention Act. We urge the committee to pass this bill and close off this major pipeline for fraud.

The Trump administration says the economy is strong, but Americans are living a different reality. Prices are up 3.7% in a year, gasoline is up 34%, and inflation-adjusted hourly earnings are down 0.7% from a year ago. Now the administration has weakened fuel economy standards, even though its own analysis shows drivers will spend about $1,600 more on gas over the life of a new car. The Consumer Price Index rose 3.7 percent in September from a year earlier, faster than a month earlier, as gas prices surged 34 percent.

Less than three months after NCL formally petitioned the FTC to act on predatory sports betting advertising, the agency is reportedly looking into the sports betting industry. The government has a strong mandate to protect consumers from harmful sports betting marketing practices, but the FTC shouldn't stop there. Any agency action should include predatory advertising by prediction market companies as well, which from a consumer's perspective are nearly identical to traditional sports betting operations.
