NCL joined 95 other health, consumer, environmental and business organizations urging Congress to vote NO on resolutions that would gut long-standing Clean Air Act protections. Cleaner vehicles save families money at the pump and keep the air breathable. There is nothing to fix here, and everything to lose. https://ow.ly/yFmR50ZFVCn

When Florence Kelley co-founded NCL in 1899, women couldn't vote, couldn't own a credit card, and had almost no workplace protections. Today, women still earn just 82 cents for every dollar men make, and that gap is widening. Women make up the majority of Medicaid enrollees, making cuts to the program a women's issue. Equality is not a milestone. It is an ongoing demand.

When the offices that hold employers accountable shrink by 90% and workplace safety enforcement drops by 47%, workers lose and corporations win. NCL lobbied for the Fair Labor Standards Act in 1938, and FDR's own labor secretary started her career here. We helped build the floor that American workers stand on. We will not watch it get pulled out from under them.

Canada just announced $20 billion in retaliatory tariffs on American goods which will take effect September 8, and everyday consumers on both sides of the border are in the crossfire. Cheese, seafood, clothing, appliances, and toilet paper are among the products facing duties as high as 50%. https://ow.ly/ZNZI50ZFq7A

Canada struck back at the United States with retaliatory tariffs on about $20 billion worth of American goods.

Two unvaccinated Pennsylvania residents have died from measles, the first U.S. measles deaths of 2026. The U.S. eliminated measles through decades of widespread vaccination. Today we are experiencing the worst measles year since 1991, with almost 3,000 cases. Declining vaccination rates and mixed messaging from federal officials are reversing hard-won public health progress. If you have questions about vaccines, talk to your doctor. https://ow.ly/iePB50ZFq57

Pennsylvania health officials report that two unvaccinated residents have died after being infected with measles.

Tune in to hear from NCL CEO Sally Greenberg about what responsible purchasing looks like!

Did you know that all the business operations that buyers engage in to bring a product to market—from product development to payment terms—influence supplier activities, which in turn impact workers? 💡

Without consistent and systematic attention to responsible purchasing, production, and sourcing practices, companies can undermine their factory and farm-level efforts toward ethical working conditions.

On September 2, we're excited to release new guidance 📄 offering a three-part simplified framework for purchasing companies in the manufacturing industry to align their business operations with effective human rights due diligence and responsible purchasing practices.

We hope you'll join us for the launch webinar, featuring a wonderful lineup of speakers including National Consumers League's Sally Greenberg, Colosseum Athletic's Kelsey Keene, Momentec Brand's Kristin Lusis Pelikhov, and Fair Wear Foundation's Hendrine Stelwagen, plus Andrea Ackerman, Chaimae Azmi, and Tiffany Rogers from our team.

John Oliver said what we have been saying for years. Subscription traps are deliberate, infuriating, and designed to make companies rich at your expense. From printers to cruise control, everything is a subscription now, and good luck getting out.

NCL fought for the FTC's click to cancel rule, which would require canceling to be as easy as signing up, defended it in court, and we are not stopping until it is law. More on subscription traps: https://ow.ly/nnA850ZEYbb

Back to school season is just around the corner, and making sure your kids are up to date on vaccines is one of the best things you can do to keep them healthy this fall. With so much confusion around recent changes to federal vaccine recommendations, NCL encourages you to talk to your child's pediatrician and rely on trusted, science-based guidance. https://ow.ly/eWeS50Zyh93

Proposed PBM settlements are only the beginning.
The FTC has reached proposed settlements with three of the nation’s largest PBMs—but proposed is the key word. Settlements don’t enforce themselves.
The real test will be what happens next: Will PBMs actually change their business practices? Will patients see lower out-of-pocket costs? And will regulators have the resources, transparency, and authority to make sure the terms are followed?
The PBM Accountability Project lays out the facts and what to watch for here: https://www.pbmaccountability.org/news
