Coalition for Civil Freedoms Legal advocacy & support for political prisoners within the U.S. Criminal justice system & families

Founded in 2010, CCF is a coalition of civil liberties and human rights organizations that challenge preemptive prosecution and the post-9/11 targeting, surveillance, and criminalization of Muslim communities. CCF’s core areas of work include education and outreach, prisoner and family support, legal services, grassroots advocacy, policy, and research. We work to amplify the voices of those directly impacted and empower them to advocate for meaningful change. Through direct action and public awareness campaigns, CCF mobilizes communities to transform the criminal legal system to one built on fairness and equality. Our vision for justice is freedom for political prisoners, an end to political repression, and the protection of the rights of all people. Member Organizations

5 things you may not know about the Coalition for Civil Freedoms.
CCF’s work goes far beyond raising awareness. Founded in 2010, the organization brings together people directly affected by post-9/11 prosecutions, families, attorneys, and civil-rights advocates. Its work includes prisoner correspondence and financial assistance, family support, pen-pal connections, public education, legal advocacy, and efforts to change federal policy.
CCF reports that it has provided $100 canteen gifts to more than 200 federal prisoners over more than a decade, while its 2024 annual report described correspondence with approximately 100 incarcerated people and a pen-pal program that had nearly matched every participating loved one.

Twenty years after 9/11, the legacy of the War on Terror is still shaping civil liberties, privacy, surveillance and human rights. The Terror Trap examines how expanded government surveillance, pre-emptive prosecutions, discriminatory policing and detention policies disproportionately affected Muslim communities and why protecting due process, religious freedom and fundamental rights still matters today.

Every year, we bring families and staff together for our Annual Family Conference: a space to learn, connect, heal, and grow. We gather for workshops and conversations. We sing together. We cope together. We strategize together. We learn together. We grow together.

We are partnering with Muslim Counterpublics Lab to examine the lessons and legacies for the 25th anniversary of the War on Terror at the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University on Thursday and Friday, September 17-18!
Check out this incredible schedule and line up of brilliant speakers from across sectors including journalists, lawyers, organizers, scholars, directly impacted community members and so much more.

Join us as we expose the role of Islamophobia + xenophobia in the War on Terror infrastructure and analyze how racialized narratives have justified surveillance, detention, militarization, and national security policies.

We will highlight and learn from resistance movements from grassroots organizing to narrative interventions to policy change. Together, this conference will give us an opportunity to envision abolitionist futures by fostering collective imagination around dismantling this infrastructure and building systems rooted in justice, care, and collective liberation.

This year marks two anniversaries: 25 years of the Global War on Terror and 250 years of the American empire. We can never truly quantify or unearth all the levels of harm that have been inflicted.

However, we know that memorializing and gathering as a collective is one way we can grapple with how this War on Terror apparatus has reshaped the lives of Muslims, Arabs and other targeted communities in the U.S. and across the globe. 🌍 🫂

In response, we are partnering with Muslim Counterpublics Lab Muslim Counterpublics Lab and over 30 organizations by convening at “When Will This War End: Lessons and Legacies of the War on Terror,” on Thursday and Friday, September 17-18, 2026 in Washington D.C. 🙌🏼

We invite you all to join us for this conference featuring 12 plenaries and workshops with over 35 speakers over the two days. Details such as speakers, session descriptions, schedule and registration can be found at: WarOnTerror25.org

Today, the sky gives us a powerful reminder: darkness can block the light, but it cannot make the light disappear.

For those imprisoned for their beliefs, their words, their journalism, their activism or their refusal to stay silent, we have not forgotten you.

Walls can restrict a person’s movement. They cannot imprison an idea. They cannot erase truth. And they cannot stop people outside those walls from continuing to speak their names.

As the light returns, so does the reminder that even the darkest moments pass.

To our political prisoners: we see you. We remember you. We stand with you. You are not forgotten.
